Pebbles’ Recovery Story:

Pebbles’ owner was very worried when she found her one morning with a nasty laceration to her eyelid. Our vet Laura went out and gave her some sedation so that she was able to examine, clean, and repair the wound. Eye wounds are tricky to stitch up as the skin is so delicate, but luckily Pebbles was the perfect patient and made Laura’s job much easier.

After a course of pain relief and antibiotics, we are pleased to say that Pebbles is back to her normal self, enjoying life with her friends. We think you will agree that her good looks were not spoiled, and you can hardly tell the damage had ever been done!

Thanks to everyone who joined us on Friday at The Greyhound Hotel for our talk on Young Stock Health in Cattle, in conjunction with Lantra, Farming Connect and Nadis.

‼️ Builth Vets have seen an increasing number of colic cases over the last couple of days. We would like to provide you with a few tips on how to keep your horse well through this cold period. 🥶

❄️ It is vital that horses and ponies have constant access to water. They can be put off drinking by ice on their water bowls/buckets, so when possible try to defrost with warm water.

❄️ If you are struggling to encourage your horse or pony to drink, consider providing them with warm sloppy mashes throughout the day.
❄️ If stabled, monitor the amount of faeces being passed and if you think the amount has reduced then take appropriate action.

❄️If turned out, good quality forage should be available at all times, especially if the grass is covered in snow.

❄️ Familiarise yourself with your horse’s or pony’s normal behaviour and be aware of subtle changes and signs of colic.

Back British Farming 🇬🇧🚜

Today thousands of farmers will march to Westminster to demonstrate that the new taxes announced in the budget are not sustainable and will lead to the ruin of many farms. Farms that have been tended to by families for generations, never living in luxury but working tirelessly throughout their lives.

Farming is a way of life, a commitment to the land and a responsibility to provide quality food for the nation. Farmers weather many storms but are comforted with the knowledge that this way of life can be handed down to the next generation.

Without farmers the entire rural infrastructure will crumble and the countryside, as we know it, will change forever. It is time the government stopped and listened to the backbone of our society.

We work with farmers every day, 365 days a year, we share their highs and lows, fears and successes. They are hardworking, resilient and ever changing. We understand now is the time to show our solidarity, as we know without you we have no future.
