📢 What is Hip Dysplasia and how to recognise the signs? 🐾

Hip dysplasia is a common joint condition in dogs where the hip doesn't fit properly into the socket — leading to pain, stiffness, and arthritis. 🦴

Key features:
🗝 Usually there is a genetic predisposition
🗝 It is chronic and progressive
🗝 Leads to osteoarthritis, pain and muscle loss

Signs to look out for:
👀 "Bunny hopping" gait (using both back legs together while running)
👀 Lameness in the hind limbs
👀 Swaying or wobbling walk (especially in the hips)
👀 Muscle atrophy in the hind legs due to disuse
👀 Stiffness, especially after rest
👀 Difficulty rising, sitting, or lying down

🚨 Warning: Drama Queen with a Snack Problem 🚨

She arrives at every session with a wagging tail, a sparkle in her eye and a rumble in her tummy 💛

Even after a spinal injury (ANNPE - see previous posts for more information) she still loves life and grabs it with all paws.

She also LOVES her food. In fact she loves to eat … anything.

She recently gave us quite a scare — a near-death experience after sneakily snacking on one of her mum’s stockings (we’re still not over it 😳🧦). But nothing keeps her down for long!

🌍 Guess where in the world this gorgeous girl comes from ?? 🤷‍♀️

If I tell you she is a (failed!) reindeer- herding dog that might give up a clue 🤔.

Give up ? She hails from the tundra of Norway. She understands Sami, the language of the region. Fortunately for us, she has a few words of English 😂

Her failure in reindeer-herding is nothing to do with her ability - she’s the wrong colour ! Very difficult to see in the snowy, icey tundra.

She has come to Woozelbears for help with her return to an active life, after cruciate ligament surgery in her knee.
