Tickets for our Valentines raffle are now on sale and the draw will take place on the 14th February at our Bingo night. If you are not coming to the Bingo night you can still purchase raffle tickets to be in with a chance of winning one of our great prizes.

Let’s hope the issue of missing or broken drain covers will be taken more seriously now.
We had two calls in one week last year of hedgehogs trapped down drains 😢
Please report any you see to your local council

A 'HISTORIC drain opening' which triggered an eight hour rescue of a dog in Dunfermline this week has now been secured.

We had lots of hedgehogs in last year that had become trapped in netting. If you must use netting in your garden please ensure it is at least a foot off the ground and secured properly.
Remember little Fraser who was tangled in pea netting and had been for several days as it had cut into his throat. He was so lucky to survive 🙏🏻
Also hedgehogs can become trapped in goal posts so please just lift them off the ground when not in use. Thank you 🙏🏻

Beware netting! ‼️ Garden netting may seem harmless, but for wildlife, it can be a deadly trap. If you use netting, ensure there's an 8-inch gap from the ground and securely fasten it to prevent animals from getting caught. This applies to all types of netting, from pea to tennis to football nets. Store unused netting safely to avoid accidents. A New Poem i have written from the hedgehogs who maybe still coming out at night,hope you like it.

Even when we hibernate
We can gently creep
Hungar still can stir us
From our heavy sleep🦔

Leave us out some water
And tasty food to have
We slowly wake from where we nest
To walk your garden path.🦔

A life saver for us is Water
We drink alot you know
And even in the winter months
Will drink,will eat, then go.🦔

A tasty bowl of dried food
Leave meaty flavours as you should
To know where you have left it
It really does us good.🦔

So please still feed us hedgehogs
Please leave the bowls still out
Even if some hogs won't eat
Other hogs could be about.🦔

Today Laura Piper from STV News visited the rescue for an interview as they are doing a feature regarding the hedgehog monitoring program and wanted to speak with us regarding the rescue side of things ie what problems hedgehogs face and what people can do to help them.

Not all hedgehogs hibernate so please do keep putting food and water out.
Even ones that do hibernate can have periods of arousal where they will have a quick drink and bite to eat so it is incredibly important to carry on supporting them.

Interested in hedgehogs? Want to learn more? Thinking of volunteering with a rescue?
Vale Wildlife Hospital & Rehabilitation Centre are coming up to Edinburgh to deliver their First Aid & Rehabilitation of wild Hedgehogs course on Friday 7th February and Saturday 8th February.
It is a one day course 9-5pm and you will gain a certificate and a course booklet on completion.

Please keep a look out and remember ANY hedgehog out in the day WILL need help even if it looks ok.
Please secure in a high sided box with a blanket or towel and a source of heat from a hot water bottle (hot water from the tap) or an empty drinks bottle filled with hot water from the tap and contact a rescue 🙏🏻

Gosh it is soo very cold,please still leave food and water for the hogs,not all hogs will be in hibernation.
With the ground so hard with the frosts ,and such low tempertures they will not be able to dig to forage themselves for food,so we must support them.
Any little ones are so going to struggle with not enough fat on them and will be very cold for them to be out in this extreme coldness.
The lucky ones that are found will be snug and warm in rescues,sadly for so many they won't be.
So any concerns seeing very small hogs out please call a rescue for advise.
