DID YOU KNOW... Red mite survive the winter.
Adult red mite die in winter from the cold, however young red mite and their eggs survive through the winter months; withstanding temperatures below 0° C and live without a blood source for up to 9 months!
Awakening starts at 10° C, this is when the young red mite start to reproduce and the eggs that lived through the winter begin to hatch.
Danger zone, when temperatures reach 20° C red mite populations explode. Producing up to 8 eggs a day and have very short life cycle of 7 days.
This is why it is important to prepare against red mite before it reaches summer temperatures. Attack them in the spring before/as they awaken from their deep sleep.
