Happy Halloween everyone. Jennifer and Constance carved the pumpkin.
Constance & Rosie attended the final pony club rally of 2024. Rosie was great as usual.
Action Man and I went to BD dressage at Topthorn yesterday. He went so sweetly in his Elementary test. He won, due to the fact he was the only one in that test!

We had a busy Pony Afternoon today. Finishing up in the fading light. The photos are of groups 2 & 3 ( gymkhana racing ) and group 1 in the indoor school (practicing jumping position).
In stable management we covered feeding & rugs. Working to get everyone ready to be tested on these topics in the future.
Well done everyone.

Rather a dramatic day. With a nasty car crash for one of our customers. No one hurt though. Thank goodness.

We survived our first weekend without Maddie. Our new member of staff (Jennifer) has had a great start getting to know all our horses & routines.

Tilly Farncombe & Isabelle Whight passed their first ABRS rosette ( start, stop, steer).
Well done girls.

It was Maddie’s last day today. Yesterday we got the news that we were hoping for . Maddie passed her full BHS stage 3 and is now a Stage 3 coach. We are so proud of her.
She can now apply for her International Trainers Passport & be able to teach in other countries.

We will miss Maddie terribly but all good things come to an end. We had a little farewell party at the Dun Cow last night.

Good luck Maddie , we love you!! I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many people in tears on the yard. You’ll always get a good reference from us.

Here are a few photos from last night’s successful dressage competition.
The winners were
Intro 2
Junior- Grace Talbot-Hadley - Archie
Senior - Olivia Cole- Finbar

Preliminary 2
Junior - Sophie Whight-Archie
Senior- Nicola Hardman - Hank

A great night for Archie.

The young ponies Janey & Kevin did their first dressage tests and coped well with the busy environment.

I managed to get photos of lots of riders, but not everyone, as I had to go and add up the scores.
The staff had plaited most of the ponies/ horses and cleaned the tack. Everyone was looking smart.
I hope all the riders & spectators had fun.

Here are the dressage times for Thursday evening. Please message me if you think you should be on the list and you aren’t.

You need to be here at least 30 mins before your time to get organised and warm up.

Formal competition dress is not required , but if you have it , it would be nice to see people smartly turned out.

No video or photos in the arena during the competition. You’re welcome to take a still photo of yourself and your horse on the yard or outside the arena.

We will split into junior & senior sections. Anyone with H/C after their name is just riding for practice & not competing.

We need help with the horses after the competition. Please bring drinks/ snacks as needed.
We’re hoping to be all finished before it’s dark.

Entries for the dressage competition on 19th September are now closed. Times will be posted on this page a couple of days before the competition.
The classes will start at 5.15 pm
That should give the early competitors time to get back from school to warm up. I’ll aim to give adults later times.
Ali Wakelin is our judge for the evening.

JOB AVAILABLE

We are seeking a live in member of staff to replace Maddie. This is a varied job which involves all aspects of work at the riding school/ livery yard and supervising more junior staff.
Some childcare is also involved.
We also run a campsite in the summer and air b&b accommodation.
Sole charge may be required at times.
Ideally someone with a level 2/3 qualification. A level 2 coach wishing to train to level 3 would be great. Or level 2 keen to coach.
We can offer lots of riding and training towards BHS exams .
No smokers & full DBS check needed.
Short term contract to start with which can be extended if things go well.

Constance and Rosie had a good day at the Suffolk Pony Club competition day today. There were marks for six different activities. Tack & Turnout, Dressage, showjumping, running( on your own feet!), shooting ( nerf gun) and handy pony. Constance came 2nd . We were pleased with that. This competition helps to prepare them for tetrathlon in the future.

A couple of photos from the Pony Afternoon today. Group 1 completed their ABRS rosette award in ‘mucking out’ . It’s a lovely brown rosette! That’s why we had our photo shoot by our lovely square muck heap.

The other two groups completed their ‘catching a pony’ rosette.
I think everyone had lots of fun. We finished up with a suitably chaotic gymkhana. Maddie says she’ll miss Pony Days. This was her last one.

So, that’s a wrap in the last of our summer activities.
Please remember we are closed between 2nd and 6th September. Our new lesson schedule kicks in from 7th September.

Today we took a group of horses to ‘Amy’s Ride’. This was a charity event which was held at Queach Farm(Nr Gt. Barton).
We took six horses from Bardwell and met Claire CM ( a previous at livery at Bardwell) there.

The event was very well attended and organised. All riders seemed to leave st the correct start time. I’m sure they will have raised a significant amount for the good cause.

The horses were quite excited. Constance fell off when Rosie did a very awkward jump . She hopped straight back on and on we went.

We finished with an excellent haul in the raffle. Between us we won - 1 litre Bacardi, 1 Glenfiddich , 24 beers, a small barrel of beer a candle & £30. Wow.

13/08/2024

Here’s a little action from the jumping morning. Apologies that not everyone is in it , and that it was just the warm up fence.
I was just doing a test run to see if I could get a few pieces of video & photos together. I think it looks ok. I’ll see if I can make some more ambitious movies in the future.

Everyone did really well. It’s so good to have time to do some jumping theory work as well as actually jumping.

Today’s pony afternoon went well, with lots of new rosettes issued, well done all.

“ Liked: EVERYTHING! Sharon and her team were lovely, responsive and accommodating. Lovely pitch, level ground. Easy to find. Amazing views! We had such good weather that we opened the van backdoor, watched the horses and the sunset. It was so quiet and peaceful, it felt like getting away from the world. The facilities were very clean, which is especially impressive when it's a working Equestrian centre. The facilities were NOT far from the pitch. I don't understand other reviews saying that they are, when it's a short walk away. I've definitely stayed at pitches where the toilets are much further! Wifi at the pitch was good. Something unique to offer, as there is a router by the campsite. All the horses looked very well looked after and were sweet, they enticed me into a riding lesson. I had a 1-1 with Sharon and learnt a great deal. Very knowledgeable and a kind teacher. I would definitely visit again, both for camping and a riding lesson.

Disliked: Not being able to stay longer (personal life commitments)! ”

A big day out for team Bardwell to the dressage at Queach Farm today. We 2 lorries and a trailer out today ( 5 horses) All the horses went well in spite of the heat. Julia was out for her first outing with Lola. Bob and Fiona were brilliant. Their work has really improved.
Roxy and Constance put in their usual consistent performance. Thesehorses were in the unaffiliated sections.
Action Man was in the affiliated novice & elementary and was a star as usual.
The funniest part was that the judge came up to speak to me ( Sharon) at the end. I was wondering what I was going to get told off for. However, she had come to compliment me on how well our horses had gone and how well trained my riders were!
I felt very proud.

I’m so sorry to say that our darling Maddie will be leaving us at the beginning of October. She’s been here for four years ( which is probably much longer than she originally planned).

Maddie will be the last in a long line of girls from Sweden that have worked here. It will be the end of an era. Sadly, legislation changes due to Brexit have caused this.

Maddie has done so well during her time here. She has been a huge help to our family. Helping to look after Constance and being such a hard , conscientious, worker on the yard.

To say we’ll miss her is an understatement. Maddie will leave as a qualified instructor which should help her with whatever she decides to do in the future.

She’s pictured here on Connie after showjumping in the pouring rain.
