🌾 CHECKING FOR GRASS SEEDS 🌾
Here is a great video showing Sprout the Spaniel being checked for grass seeds, and see how there are a couple hiding in his fluff at the end. It is extremely important to check all our pooches toes at the end of every walk, incase there are pesky seeds hiding away as demonstrated here!
ADDER BITES: Here’s what to do!
🐍 Keep your dog close to you or on a lead around areas known for Adder populations – this will stop them from bothering the snakes and the likelihood of the snakes striking.
🐍 If an Adder has bitten your pet, call your vet immediately, and if possible, carry your pet to stop the venom from spreading.
🐍 Even if you have been on a walk and haven't seen your pet get bitten but they are acting out of character or notice any swellings, call your vet to be safe.
As we go through these warmer months, we will likely see more Adders basking in the sun, where they are likely to be bothered by your pets!
☀️ Just like us, cats need to stay hydrated during the summer months! 💧
Ensure your feline friend has access to clean, fresh water at all times. You can also try offering wet food or adding water to dry kibble to increase their water intake.
Let's keep our cool cats hydrated and healthy this summer!
☀️ Summer days are here, and it's important to keep our furry friends hydrated!
Whether it's a trip to the park or a garden play session, make sure your pup has access to plenty of fresh water to beat the heat.
Remember, a hydrated dog is a happy dog! 🐶
Now that’s service! 🐰

N IS FOR NUTRITIONIST
There are a huge range of diets available for our pets, and it can be difficult to know which one is best.
Our nurses provide the hospitalised patients an appropriate diet for their condition, sometimes even needing to administer a liquid feed through a naso-gastric or oesophageal tube.
Your pets diet may not stay the same throughout their life due to a variety of reasons:
🍏 Age - younger animals require more protein to allow them to grow
🍏 Size - A Great Dane will require many more calories than a Chihuahua!
🍏 Lifestyle - pets with higher levels of activity will need more calories
🍏 Breed - Large to giant breeds are more susceptible to musculoskeletal issues, so their diet may need to be supplemented to support the joints
🍏 Medical conditions - Pancreatitis is a condition that requires a low fat diet, a urinary specific diet can help prevent the build up of crystals that could progress into stones in the bladder
🍏 Neuter status - When a pet is neutered their metabolic rate becomes lower, meaning they need less calories. If they were to stay on the same amount of food then there is a risk of extra body fat build-up leading to obesity

M IS FOR MIDWIFERY
Just like humans, animals sometimes require caesarean sections to remove the babies if they are in distress, or if the mother is struggling to pass them.
👶🏼 Once the babies have been removed from the uterus, a nurse will quickly swoop in to take them from the vet performing the surgery, and encourage them to take their first breaths.
👶🏼 This involves wrapping them in a comfy towel and vigorously but gently rubbing their sides to help the fluid come out of the airways, allowing air in for the first time.
👶🏼 They are often supplemented with oxygen
👶🏼 Their umbilical cords are tied off with suture material and will fall off naturally a few days later
👶🏼 Once the mother is recovering from the surgery we will try to latch the babies on for their first feed. The first milk is called colostrum, and is full of antibodies and goodness to help the babies to thrive!
Hearing newborn squeaks for the first time is definitely one of the most rewarding parts of the job! 😻
Volume up for this one, Steve is one talkative little man! 😻 And yes, that’s a member of staff meowing back at him, they seem to be particularly fluent in the language of the felines!
It appears it’s the season for grass getting stuck in a cats throat! Poor Bonnie had been snuffly for a few days and when we sedated her and had a good look inside we saw a pesky blade of grass, over 15cm long! You can hear the ‘oo’s’ and ‘aah’s’ from the staff on video 😸
Here comes Santa paws 🎅🏼 perfectly named Holly is ready for Christmas!!

⚠️ Jellyfish Warning ⚠️
Jellyfish are washing up on many beaches and shorelines right now. Therefore, dog owners must be vigilant and protect their pets from these jellyfish.
Even long-dead jellyfish can sting inquisitive dogs, and, in some cases, this can cause significant pain and swelling. This is of particular concern if the sting occurs in or near the mouth or if your pet has a severe reaction to the sting.
Common signs of jellyfish stings can be sudden onset of pain, vomiting, retching, drooling, and swelling of the face, limbs, mouth, and throat.
If a jellyfish’s tentacle is attached to the skin, use a towel or stick to carefully detach these from the skin – be careful not to touch these yourself!
Please seek vet attention promptly if your dog has been stung, particularly if it involves the mouth/throat
Making biscuits! 😍
Kittens knead their mother's stomach to stimulate milk flow. If your cat kneads your lap during cuddles, it may indicate their connection from the secure bond with their mother to the bond they share with you.
And the more they knead, the more they love you! 💗
