For existing clients, I'll be offering paid short clinical massage treatments, rest day active stretch work (Tues and Weds), PEMF, Photizo, and cold treatments. I will also offer kinesiology taping if an existing client needs it.

If you are not a current client, are attending and would like a treatment please ask for a consent form. There will be some times when it may not be advisable to treat with manual therapy on the day but more beneficial on a rest day. I will steer you on this as every case is different.

Did you know puppies are not born with hip dysplasia? 😲
A condition where the ball does not fit and stay snuggly in the hip socket: This could be because of the poor and widened formation of the socket or because the ligament holding the ball in the socket is lax and weak.
Dogs may be predisposed to hip dysplasia formation via genetics but environmental factors like sploofing from the whelping box times and through life, slippy floors, jumping, climbing stairs and poor nutritional decisions can cause HD to develop
Most often the owner/vet goal is reactive, to strengthen the muscles around the hip so that they become a strong muscular sling keeping the hip protected.
I can of course help through clinical massage and by using other rehab and electrotherapies.
BUT, what I prefer to do is to work proactively. Here are some handy tips:
❌No access to stairs before of 4 months of age,
❌No ad lib feeding,
❌Provide an appropriate diet for your dogs age and growth rates,
❌No access to slippy floors,
❌No jumping before 4 months
✔️Provide traction in the whelping box
✔️Discourage sploofing
✔️Core condition your dog from puppy!
Now - Imagine some of these precautions may have slipped through the net because you didn't know at the time the impacts these would have on the development of hip dysplasia.
Instead, you'll work to manage the condition.
There is NO BETTER means to provide natural, balanced mechanical support to your dogs body than your dog's own body.
When you improve your dog's core condition: The superficial muscles in the body are not hell-bent on compensation to move but instead the muscles surrounding the hip joint will strengthen, around the joint to protect it and allow movement.
Imagine you've worked your dogs core and with all of this knowledge you have from their puppyhood and avoid those environmental factors - Could your dog have a longer, healthier, happier life?

I'm running a full-day Musculoskeletal Workshop at Manners 4 Paws on the 11th of May at Rackheath Village Hall NR13.
In the morning I'll cover science backed information about the musculoskeletal system and how core conditioning protects the spine and skeletal frame. With a little bit of interactive fun thrown in 🤗

A rehab patient working with Frankincense (therapeutic grade oils) during the manual therapy element of the treatment. He can be a bit nervous so using this grounding essential oil can really help to settle him into his treatment. I opt for this over Valerian if I can as Valerian stinks to high heaven! Techniques and releases are never forced, never rushed - I give my patients time. It will never be a one-out next-in policy at Born to Run. Nor will I share blow-by-blow what's going on with your dog on socials, that's not ethical - IMO. I leave plenty of buffer before and after to finish what I started. I'll not bamboozle you with the technical language I'd use to converse with vets. I can if you want me to though. But why would that impress you? All I expect you want is for me to help your dog within my scope of practice (within the law) and for me to provide you with a plan to help you achieve the best functional outcomes for your dog after you leave the clinic which may include another therapy I don't deliver, but that therapy forms part of the bigger plan. I work ethically, and I know and recommend certain complementary therapists when your dog needs treatment outside of my scope of practice. For example hydrotherapy, chiropractor, osteopath. BUT this doesn't mean that I'm washing my hands of your dog or can no longer help them. It simply means that after the other specialist treatment, based on the plan I have put together for your dog, you should come back to me so that I can check on their progress, continue their treatment, and ensure that the outcomes are expected and long-lasting. Moreso that the problem does not reoccur. Recurring lameness for example. .....When you know up to 55% of a dog's body is made up of muscle and when you know the body sacrifices muscle and soft tissue first to injury and that those who trained with the Canine Massage Therapy Centre (Erm Me...) did so for 2 years as one specialty, no-one can assess an
Scruffy a gorgeous rescue Border has been coming to me for his massage treatments for around 6 years. We think he's around 16 -18 years old now Older dogs get stiff and can't walk as far and I'm delighted that Scruffys owners understand that if he doesn't want to walk he doesn't have to.
