Novice class – Great Progress Last Night!

A big well done to our Novice Dog Training group for their hard work last night! Everyone is making fantastic progress in building off-lead control around distractions.

This class focuses on key skills to improve reliability and confidence, including:
🐾 Emergency Stop – Teaching dogs to stop instantly when needed.
🐾 Recall Training – Ensuring they come back, no matter the distractions.
🐾 Engagement – Strengthening focus and responsiveness.

It’s amazing to see the improvement each week keep up the great work!

Ryu the Shiba Inu – A Big Win!

Had my last 1:1 session with Ryu this weekend, and I couldn’t be prouder of how far he’s come! From struggling with reactions to other dogs to now calmly passing them by—what an incredible transformation.

His owners recently took him on a trip, and they told me that last time it was a real challenge navigating past other dogs. But this time? He walked by them happily and quietly, no stress at all! Such a fantastic result and a testament to the work his owners have put in.

Well done, Ryu! Keep up the great work! 🐕✨

What’s the Most Valuable Thing You’ve Taught Your Dog? 🐶

For me, it’s the emergency stop—being able to stop my dog in place is definitely a great thing to teach. Whether it’s preventing them from running into danger or just keeping them from chasing after something, it gives me peace of mind knowing I have that training.

If you haven’t taught your dog an emergency stop, I highly recommend it! What’s the most useful skill you’ve trained your dog to do so far? Or, is there something you wish they knew that would make life easier for both of you?

Great Work at Our UK Sniffer Scent Detection Bronze Workshop!

We had a fantastic UK Sniffer dogs scent detection bronze workshop 1 this morning! All the dogs did an amazing job, progressing through each stage. We started with them searching for a whole Kong and gradually reduced it down to a tiny 3-5mm piece which is such an impressive achievement!

Well done to all the teams who took part. Looking forward to seeing you all continue to develop your scent work skills! 🐾🔎

What is our novice class?

This is the class our puppies go up to after puppy class but is also open to older dogs who know the basics.

Our Novice Dog Training Class is designed to improve your dog’s focus, engagement, and responsiveness—even in challenging environments!

Some of what we cover:

✅ Emergency Stop – Teach your dog to stop instantly, no matter the situation.

✅ Focus & Engagement Off-Lead – Strengthen your dog’s attention and connection without a lead.

✅ Distraction Work – Help your dog stay calm and responsive around distractions of other dogs and people.

Perfect for dogs who have mastered the basics and are ready for more 🐕

We had a great Monday night progress class this week. Some of the things we worked on were some Rally, go round, stop and our competition exercise for the course. Really great work from all the dogs and owners ❤️

What’s your biggest struggle with your dog?

Is it pulling on the lead, jumping on people, barking, or struggling to stay calm around other dogs?

You’re not alone! One of the most common challenges owners face is managing excitement, especially around distractions.

I get it, because I’m working on this exact thing with my own adolescent dog, Aria. She’s amazing, but like many young dogs, the world is just SO exciting, and it can be hard for her to focus. This has been heightened since being in season. Through consistent training, clear communication, and some patience, we’re making great progress together—and I’d love to help you do the same with your dog.

If you’re struggling, I offer 1:1 training to help you and your dog work through these challenges and build a stronger connection. Whether it’s on lead manners, greeting calmly, or overcoming other obstacles, I’m here to support you every step of the way.

Mental Enrichment to make mealtimes more interesting.

Did you know that how you feed your dog can play a big role in their mental stimulation? By changing up their mealtime routine, you can provide mental enrichment, reduce boredom, and even help with problem-solving skills. Here are some ways to turn feeding time into a fun challenge:

1. Food Puzzles

🐾 Puzzle feeders come in various designs to encourage your dog to think and work for their food.

🐾 They’re great for slowing down fast eaters while keeping their minds engaged.

2. Snuffle Mats

🐾 Hide kibble or treats in the fabric layers of a snuffle mat.

🐾 This taps into your dog’s natural foraging instincts.

3. Stuffed Kongs or Lick Mats

🐾 Fill a Kong toy or a lick mat with wet food or soaked dry food.

🐾 Freeze it for a longer-lasting challenge if they are finding it easy to empty.

4. Scatter Feeding

🐾 Scatter their food in the garden getting them searching.

🐾 Scenting is a great way to reduce energy as well as letting your dog strengthen their natural ability.

5. DIY Games

🐾 Place food in an egg carton, muffin tin, or under plastic cups to create a simple puzzle.

🐾 Sprinkle some food onto a towel and then roll it up. Getting your dog to unroll it.

6. Training

🐾 Use part of their food as rewards during training sessions.

Mental enrichment through feeding not only tires your dog out mentally but also helps them to be more content. Experiment with these methods to find what your dog enjoys most.

We just returned from a much-needed holiday, and as always, my dog Aria came along for the adventure. She absolutely loves the beach—there’s nothing quite like watching her zoom across the sand.It’s her happy place, and honestly, her excitement makes the trip even more special for me. 🐩

Traveling with our dogs has always been a big part of our holidays. Whether it’s long walks by the water, playing fetch in the surf, or just relaxing together under a beach umbrella, the memories we create are priceless.

It got me thinking: every dog probably has their favourite holiday spot. ⛺️⛱

I thought I would just add an updated introduction. For those of you who haven’t already met me my name is Jolene and I am the owner and founder of Tibaydin Dog Training. 🐶

I live at home with my husband Chris and my standard poodle Aria. I have been working as a dog trainer now for 19 years and working with dogs for 26 years. 🐩

I am really passionate about effective, force free and science based training. I completed my first dog behaviour qualification 23 years ago but annually I am updating my skills and knowledge. I feel it’s extremely important to my clients and their dogs that my knowledge is up to date. ❤️
