The History of Northern Parrots
Northern Parrots can be traced back to 1979. John Taylor, and his wife Sylvia, decided to open a family business in Ramsbottom, Lancashire. The shop, at that time simply named ‘The Pet Shop’, was predominately selling goods for cats, dogs and small animals.
In the late 1980’s Mike, John’s eldest son, began working in the shop part-time. The family had a keen interest in Parrots and John decided to form Northern Parrots, run from the same premises.
After being crowned runner up in The National Pet Shop of the year award, and in anticipation of the twenty years in business, The Pet Shop was re-named Northern Pet Centre.
At this stage, the very first catalogue was also produced. Nobody else was sending out mail order catalogues for Parrot goods and Parrot owners around the country quickly signed up.
