Just to let all of my customers know about the proposed road closure that may affect you getting to me. Please allow extra time getting to me as I will still have to stick to appointment times.

The road from Travellers Rest through Brough to Bradwell:

Stretfield Road is the main route between the A6187 Hope Road and the A623 in the south.

On Monday 17 June 2024, a major 12-week project will begin to rebuild the retaining wall.

The repairs include rebuilding 23 metres of the wall to strengthen it to reduce the risk of a future collapse.

Concrete will be used to reinforce the existing wall, which will be covered with the original stone recovered from the brook, to maintain the wall's natural appearance, in keeping with the local environment.

During the repairs, Stretfield Road will be closed in both directions as the road is very narrow where the wall has collapsed. Space is required for an excavator, site cabins and safety fencing which unfortunately means there is insufficient space for pedestrians or traffic on this already very narrow stretch of road.

The diversion route will be Stretfield Road, B6049, A623 From Mires Lane To Long Lane, Middleton Dale, Grindleford Road, Froggatt Road, Froggatt Edge, A625 From Froggatt Edge To District Boundary, Owler Bar Road, Hathersage Road, Sheffield Road, Hope Road.

The gorgeous Wilma had her first full groom with bath and blow dry on Wednesday but I couldn’t take a photo because she had a poorly tummy . Thankfully her owner took this great photo of her . She is coming on in leaps and bounds with her confidence since she found her forever home! I also managed to clip her sister Bettie’s nails as her owner finds it tricky.

Very useful advice for owners during the wet winter months.

Very useful advice for owners during the wet winter months.

Brush, Brush , Brush….
With the continuing wet weather it is so important to brush your dog even more regularly. We are seeing dogs coming in more matted than normal, so if you want to keep your dog in the normal style it is essential. For many rethinking a shorter style can be a great option.
We have so many owners tell us their dog does not enjoy grooming. No dog is born hating grooming, it’s about creating positive experiences, so early socialisation in a salon to get used to the noises and goings on and brushing at home, so knots and matts do not occur, is an absolute must! . This way brushing is pain free and your dog will have no reason to have anxiety about dog grooming.
Tips for at home grooming,
🐾 Insure you have a good slicker brush and comb
🐾 Make sure you brush up and out from root to tip and can get a comb through .
🐾 If your dog wears a harness extra brushing will be required on all contact points of the harness, so chest and armpit areas etc
🐾 Use a leave in conditioning spray when brushing to prevent coat damage.
🐾 Place your dog on a table, using a rubber Matt to prevent slipping, this will help your dog understand he has a zone where grooming happens, if you have a large dog, place an blanket on the floor in the same location each time.
🐾 groom in short bursts if needed but insure you finish what you are doing if your dog plays up, rather than letting them go straight away.
🐾 do not rub your dog with a towel, this causes friction , which causes matting, squeeze moisture from the coat, brush and leave to dry and then brush again.
🐾 If bathing at home you must insure products are rinsed well and to ideally dry your dog and comb through. Drying in matts makes them constrict tighter.
Remember a dog just wants to be comfortable,
so if short is more practical for the time you can dedicate to grooming and your life style, then they really do not mind. 💜
