Fun in the forest
A morning of quality time with the girls in one of their favourite places in the world 😄
How about this for an unusual visitor to our front door!
We love where we are for many reasons, but one element is the semi-rural location, which gives us easy access to the main parts of the North West while surrounded by fields.
Over the years we've lived here, we've seen pheasants, badgers, foxes, owls, etc., but this is the very first time I've had a stag pop up on one of the security cameras.
He just walked slowly up our drive, straight to the front door, hung around and then walked back down the drive.
An amazing sight and one I'd love to see again.
Best wishes for Christmas 2023
Best wishes to all my lovely clients and followers for Christmas and the New Year.
See you all in 2024.
Izzy and Skye came on rather wet recce for my Autumn forest sessions, a few days ago.
There's still lots of leaf cover and the colours aren't quite there yet, but I don't think we're going to have to wait too long :)
When you've got a couple of Black Labradors prone to sticking their tongues out for almost every image, we've got to use all the tricks in the book to get those tongues out of the way!
I often use different noise makers to get them to partially/fully close their mouths, but as I was using a flash for this particular shot I needed them to look towards the flash.
So lifting the ball in my clients hand, they slowly got that concentration just at the right point :)
Do you think you might struggle to get a group image from our session?
When I speak to prospective clients, I often hear people say that they would not be able to get their dog to sit as well as the dogs they see in my images.
It might surprise you but it's actually not that unusual for me to use tricks and techniques to give the impression the dogs were better at sitting still/together than you might think.
Take a quick look at the video to show you what I can create with a few slip leads and some Photoshop magic.
If you would adore to have a group shot of your dogs out on location, then don't hesitate to get in touch.
What’s better than two happy Spaniels enjoying the late afternoon sunshine on a crisp snow day?
It's already the end of 2022, and what a year it has been.
Reflecting on the past year in my dog photography business, I am filled with gratitude and joy. I have had the privilege of working with so many amazing dogs, each with their unique personality and special bond with their humans.
One thing that has become even clearer this year is the importance of documenting our time with our dogs. Our furry friends bring so much joy and love into our lives, and capturing and preserving those special moments is incredibly important.
Every dog has brought something special to my camera lens, from playful puppies to dignified seniors. Capturing their beauty and spirit is a rewarding experience, and I am so grateful to be able to do what I love.
I also had the chance to photograph a number of new breeds to me, all as part of my Gun dog breeds book project. It's been a great opportunity, and I look forward to working on more in the coming months.
Overall, 2022 has been a fantastic year for dog photography, and I am so grateful for all the amazing dogs and their humans I have had the opportunity to work with. Each of them has touched my heart, and I look forward to all the beautiful dogs I will get to meet and photograph in the coming year. Thank you again to all my clients that commissioned me to create their memories.
So here is a brief slideshow of some of my favourites from those sessions throughout the year. See if you can spot some of your favourites too.
As we move forward into the new year, I encourage you to document your special moments with your dogs. Whether by booking with a professional photographer such as myself or a quick phone picture, these memories will be treasures that you can look back on and cherish for years to come.
I promise 'leave' isn't the only word I use in training Skye!
I've software that automatically cuts out dead space in video footage. It works quite well, but as it works by listening for words in the footage, it does seem to bias the final video in a way that suggests it's all I can say 😆
I'm working on three-point retrieves, so she needs to ignore the dummies and toys being sent over her head and off in different directions. So it's pretty challenging for a Spaniel that naturally wants to chase.
We are getting there, and she's actually quite good at it, provided there's a lot of love and treats included in the training, of course.
Looking back at a quick behind-the-scenes from my Gun Dog book project shoot earlier this year with Dillion and Skye, the Irish Red and White Setters.
It always takes a few goes to capture the sort of action images we might want, especially when you've got quite an age gap between the different dogs.
But we did end up creating a lovely set from this session.
Who loves spending time on a windswept beach with their crazy Spaniels?
A day off catching up with my parents and the perfect opportunity to take Skye and Izzy to the beach to blow the cobwebs away.
They love it there…we really should head out there more often.
Today is "Bring Your Dog to Work Day"
Like so many people who work from home these days, my dogs are at 'work' with me every day.
But I'd love to see pictures of your dogs at work with you, whether it's an everyday occurrence or just on special occasions like today.
Please feel free to share some images below.
Another year has passed by so quickly
2021 has been a struggle for everyone, but I'm so pleased that when the rules allowed me to re-open I've been able to meet so many lovely dogs and their owners.
I'm very grateful to those clients who trusted me to capture their dogs out on location and travel to spend time in our little part of the beautiful North Wales countryside.
So here's my little video review of my favourite images from 2021.

The winner of our amazing Snazzy Sausage Jumper and artwork prize has been announced.
Just a little windy yesterday....
It was uncharacteristically breezy when out on our location session with Caia the Tamaskan Wolfdog yesterday. But so worth it for the finished images.
