Let’s talk about FLEAS
🔴 Around 95% of flea eggs, larvae and pupae live in the environment, not on pets.
🔴 An adult flea can lay hundreds of eggs in a matter of days.
🔴 Flea eggs fall off pets onto carpet, bedding into floorboards and onto soil.
🔴 Flea eggs can survive dormant for long periods of time, sometimes up to 18 months.
Treating the infestation on the pet is easy, once treated (either using a spot on treatment such as frontline or something from the vet) any biting flea should be killed within 24 hours.
Treating the infestation in the house is the hard part, if you don’t continue to use preventative flea treatments on the pet until you’ve broken the life cycle, new flea eggs will continue to hatch and the pet will become infested as soon as the treatment stops working.
🔴 Keep up with regular flea treatments (this will vary with each product so follow the guidelines, this is normally every 4-6 weeks).
🔴 Once treated, let your pet go everywhere he’s normally allowed, he’s going to be your walking flea killing machine.
🔴 Vacuum, Vacuum, Vacuum.
🔴 KEEP UP WITH REGULAR FLEA TREATMENTS, I can’t stress this enough ! Don’t be tricked into thinking they’re gone, they’re still in your home and the reason you aren’t seeing them is because you’ve given your pet a license to kill, but don’t let that license expire.
🔴 Any bedding, blankets, cushion covers, hot wash regularly.
🔴 Crank the heating up and place some wet clothes/towels on the radiators, fleas love a warm, humid environment and the quicker we can encourage the eggs to hatch, the quicker we can break the life cycle.
Hope this is helpful and apologies for the itchy read 😝
