Spotted quite a few youngsters running around in the Tricolor tub ! Very pleased to see the colony growing nicely although the babies are tiny. Who wants some when they are ready ?!

They’re here !! Merulanella sp. Tricolor and they are even more colourful than I thought they’d be 😍 Not had this family of isopods before so looking forward to a new challenge, I plan to keep them very similar to the duckies. Can’t wait to hopefully see little versions of these running around ! I think these are my new favourites 🤔 what’s your favourite ?

Another of the recent additions to the growing isopod army we have are these Spanish Giants - Porcellio expansus! I really like these, for me they seem almost Trilobite like. I know these can be a bit of a challenge to care for so I’m looking forward to working with them. So far the small group we have seem to be doing fine but time will tell if this colony is to grow!

This girl has got so big so quick !! 😍 She will gladly polish off an entire bowl of Pangea in one night! Guess when I find her a male I’ll have to make sure she has her own bowl still 🤣 Anyone else’s Leachie a pig ?

More isopods have been added to our breeding groups, up to 17 varieties now !! Recently added has been some of the larger species! First up Porcellio magnificus, These giants originating from southern Spain, can reach 2” and definitely prefer things on the dryer side unlike a lot of isopods. A moist retreat seems to suffice, looking forward to growing this colony !

Some more new isopods have arrived this week 😊 and these yellow zebras are just stunning! Can’t wait to get these going, my normal zebra colony is booming now so hopefully these will do the same. The yellow form is genetic and breeds true. These are from a fully striped line meaning the yellow is much more pronounced and uniform.

A fresh shed from one of our Female Chile Rose. They always look so clean and vibrant after a molt the purple in the head is amazing, the photo doesn’t do it justice. Still no luck finding an adult Male.. seems they are like hens teeth at the moment 😔

The Madagascan Giant Hissers are constantly hungry.. I think I could feed them twice/three times a day if I had the time, and there’s only 20 of them!! Two here were straight on a lump of sweet potato while the others behind jumped on the fruit, fish flake and dog biscuits in the background. I use a variety of foods with these and so far nothing has been left behind !

The latest isopod is the collection arrived a few days ago ! Magic Potions!! These have definitely been on the isopod wishlist since the very beginning of this little obsession and very pleased to have them. Unusual colour on these guys, the best way to describe it, is like one of the white Jelly Beans (French vanilla I think) 😊 Only 10 to start but now to make more of them !.

The iso thing has become an addiction 🙈 another species coming to TheFaunaRoom this week and I’m very excited! You may remember the Rubber Duckies were a recent addition, they seem to be doing well and some young have already been spotted 😍 every species we have is breeding well so time to add 😬

A fresh hatch of Eurycantha calcarata - New Guinea Spiny Stick Insect! They look small now but grow to one of the largest around ! Endemic to Austrailasia females of this bulky species can grow up to 15cm long and weigh up to 20g ! They feed on a variety of plants including raspberry, oak or rose. We feed them on the readily available bramble on which they thrive. Unlike a lot of species they like something to hide under which can be provided in the form of some bark, leaf litter and even a broken pot. A good layer of moist substrate is also important for humidity. As with all our animals we like to ensure they are well started so these won’t be available for a while but keep your eyes on the website over the coming weeks !

Our first and only Gargoyle Gecko so far this year is starting to gain some size! Sadly the clutch mate went full term but never emerged from the egg, can occasionally happen and always sad when it does.. hopefully we don’t see it with any of our other eggs this season. Another clutch due to hatch any day now, can’t wait to have a few more of these guys around 😍 !!

Ok so here is the second new arrival today and it’s certainly a dream animal! The stunning and much sought after Cubaris sp. Rubber Ducky.. 😍 The original discovery in the limestone caves of Thailand that has awoke a variety of amazing species entering the hobby. I’m very excited to have these in our collection but also a little nervous. These are notoriously more challenging than other species requiring higher humidity, higher temps and plenty of limestone. I’ve stopped staring at them now and leaving them to settle in !

I think this is my favourite group of roaches Therea! This species is the aptly named Domino cockroach from India. Adults once emerged in their full black and white outfit tend to spend most of their time above the surface while the nymphs prefer to stay buried! Great it’s not the other way round, means we can enjoy them in all their glory. It’s very fast and the adults can climb very well but on the whole a pretty easy roach to keep. we also have the closely related Question mark cockroaches which I’ll feature very soon, another stunning species! .

Been a cracking season so far with our Crested Gecko Group, some real beauties crawled out of their eggs! Looking like plenty of Super Dalmatians, Extreme Harlequins, White Walls and all kinds of others, so think I’ll be holding a lot back 🤦🏼‍♂️

We’ve had a few beautiful African Fat Tail Geckos hatch recently and the is Dad. For a ‘normal’ wild type he’s great example, got lovely stripe down his back which will hopefully carry over to the babies! Babies will be on the website once they’ve got some size and are feeding well

These things are just amazing, commonly known as the Emerald Green Cockroach which couldn’t describe them any more perfectly! These amazing cockroaches come from Vietnam where they live amongst the leaf litter and give birth to live young. Hopefully soon this small group we have will feel settled enough to grow into a colony !

Had a good look through some of the new isopod colonies today and was certainly pleased to find the majority have already bred!! Most pleased to see babies from these Cubaris sp Panda King!! Been a little bit nervous since these arrived that something wouldn’t be right setup wise and they weren’t cheap either.. but they must be happy and settled! Can wait to watch this colony grow!! I may consider adding another Cubaris to the collection too, which species would you get given the choice?? .

Currently taking offers for this rarity 😉!! An Albino Hissing Cockroach ! Get your offers in quick people because this bad boy won’t hang around!
Put your money away.. sadly this isn’t an albino cockroach it’s a ordinary hisser that’s just finished shedding. They are white once finished and gradually return to normal colour. How cool would a white colour morph be though!

Our Leachie is getting so big now 😍 such a beautiful animal that I’m proper chuffed to have in the collection! Out in full view tonight when doing last checks and sprays before lights out! Being a Nuu Ana it won’t be the biggest but certainly ones of the more colourful! I feel more of these coming on 😬

Feeding time in the pond this evening, despite the wind the water is looking pretty clear so thought I’d take a little under water video .. not the best quality and I did chicken out leaving my phone underwater too long 😂 the goldfish are looking fantastic and the plants have settled well, should have some flowers on the lilies before long!

The Golden Flying Snake was out basking this morning after a meal last night, perfect time for a photo! Awesome species to display, usually climbing around or basking on a branch. Very shy and skittish at first but now more than happy to watch what I’m doing provided I don’t get to close 😆

Noticed the 8 Spotted Crab Spider has had a little growth spurt recently so perfect timing to get her out for a photograph or two ! Not only does this species have the obvious incredible colouration it also, unusually, reproduces by parthenogenesis. Very much like stick insects they lay fertile egg cases producing lots of little clones of themselves - how awesome is that!

Few tub upgrades today for a few of the spiders. Warmer weather has encouraged a bit of a growth spurt with a few so time for some bigger digs. One of the Honduran Curly Hairs shed out a few days ago and look how fluffy she is!!

Cubaris sp Panda King, a stunning cave dwelling species from Asia. Awesome to work with these guys and I can’t wait to watch our colony grow! Spotted this one out this evening as I was misting down their enclosure. They like things a bit warmer and more humid than the more common isopods available and coming from limestone rich caves, plenty of calcium available too!

Our White Jade and Jadatzi snails have been literally flying out the last few weeks !! Here’s a few of the last of the White Jades, easy to see why they’ve been so popular! Been a busy week here - lots of new arrivals both that I’ve bought 🤦🏼‍♂️ and plenty of hatchlings..plenty! Our incubators have been consistently full for a while, as fast as they hatch more are laid! Here’s something new, the first two African fat tails out of their eggs and they are just perfect!! I went for a slightly lower temp this time round as it allows for a longer incubation period and therefore a stronger hatchling. They are temperature s*x determined with lower incubation temps producing mostly all females so win win!

Our website is now live !! We are still in the early stages with it, so more sections will likely be added as we go. Plus our incubators are filling up so plenty of new stock regularly being added!
