Little update : No beans! So we've decided to re-unite Alpro and Marmite for a little while and see if we can get a litter out of these two.... We will keep you posted 😁

With no beans having appeared over the last few days, its time for bachelor number two to enter the chat...

This soppy chap is Ink Cloud Marmite. He is a rex, black, half chinchilla, top eared gentleman who is coming up to a year old. He's a lovely guy with no health complaints. So he has been paired with Ink Cloud Alpro and she immediately went into heat and the deed has been done! We will leave them together tonight and then work on getting them back in their groups and watch carefully over the next 4-5 days to see if she goes back into heat, if so we will try again. We weren't planning on using the "one night stand method" but we'd rather keep them with their cage mates as much as possible. As little stress as possible πŸ˜‡

We will update our bio with when they should be due, and will provide many, hopefully much rounder, belly pics in the coming weeks for "beans or belly" on our story 😊

Fingers crossed everyone! 🀞

Alpro maybe-babies update:

We are still not 100% sure there are any beans in there... now we play the waiting game. If she is pregnant, she could be due between now right up until the 17th... we are hopeful but not expecting beans. She's with her sisters in a smaller cage for now without hammocks. A nest has been built and we've seen Alpro doing at least part of it, but she was nesting in her big cage too... she also was really opposed to standing up without the cage bars between us... that was weird, like she didn't want to show her belly πŸ˜³πŸ€” so who knows?! Time will tell.

Who's betting what? Beans or no beans?

(FYI - we are being really open about this process so that people get a good feel for us as a rattery and just as rat parents 🀣 we aren't able to travel loads for shows and stuff (although Casey is sometimes picked up by a friend and taken) so this is how I figured you lot can get a good idea with how we do things πŸ˜‡ the masses of info and many belly shots will dial down once we find our feet a bit more. Also because it's gonna be really good looking back on this in years to come. We will no doubt pick these posts appart when it gets to then 🀣)

Beans?

(We are sharing this just to be completely transparent with everyone, as well as to log it to look back on, but understand that the "bump" pics will be getting a little old at this point πŸ˜† also any suggestions from people who have done this before are more than appreciated at this stage)

We aren't very hopeful at this point honestly πŸ˜• Alpro doesn't seem to be bigger, just a little rounder-shaped (???) and when we weighed her a couple of days ago she had *lost* weight (?!!)... but it's bizarre that she's got rounder if she's *not* pregnant.

Essentially, our gut feeling is that she's not pregnant, but we are aware that even experienced breeders get surprised by this, either towards the end of the pregnancy or when they actually give birth so it wouldn't be a shock if we did too 🀣 we are thinking of plans for who to pair if she's not pregnant, but ofcourse will be waiting a while after the time when she is due, just to make absolutely sure, before trying again πŸ˜‡

An update: Earl and Alpro are still in together and were found curled up together this afternoon. Earl got his weight up baby so alpro had a little bit too because Earl is looking a little skinny and we want him to feel as well as he can πŸ˜‡πŸ€© Alpro doesn't really want to be out of the cage and was nesting a little this morning which is a really good sign, but we will leave them together for a little while yet just to make it more likely that she gets pregnant πŸ˜‡ they're being really nice to each other so I'm not worried about them being together for a bit longer yet ✨️

WE HAVE PAIRED OUR FIRST TWO RATS!!!

House Onion Earl Grey (buck, rex, half chinchilla, top eared) has been introduced to Ink Cloud Alpro (doe, Russian blue, half chinchilla) last night and we will leave them on their "honeymoon" for around a week now.

This is very exiting stuff!! I really hope that they do what we want them too and in around 3-4 weeks we should hear little squeaks coming from Alpro's cage 🐾

After code (our Foster doe) losing her whole litter, we weren't sure if breeding was for us. We had a really difficult time with it to be honest. But, after about a week we have decided that we are going to breed.

Here is bagel, who we hope will father our first litter, today on his 1st birthday!

This morning our foster doe, Code, had 8 babies with 2 surviving. She is a very good mama!

Hey friends! Welcome to our Rattery page!! Healer Rats is going to be run by myself, Casey and my fiancè, Zach. We will be registering our Rattery with the NFRS as soon as we are ready to start our breeding journey. We are fostering 2 litters in the coming month from another NFRS breeder, which will be our first time looking after a mum and babies that young. We are really looking forward to this journey, and hope you'll stick around!
