Coops can feel a little 'cooped-up' so we free range our chickens in our farm field on lovely sunny days like today! ☀️

The moveable cage allows them to scratch and peck in the tall grass finding bugs, critters, and creepy crawlies that are downright delicious.

Their droppings mix in with the soil, and being able to move them around means that one area of our land doesn't get too mucked up.

This is one of the reasons why our ChickenGuard prodects are battery and solar powered, because we know that chicken owners like-us, want to give our girls the world while keeping the safe from predators.

Biscuit may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but she is a cutie-patootie! 🥰

Frosty mornings with our gorgeous girls is what it's all about! ❄️

Chickens are hearty birds and can handle low temperatures for a short amount of time, but it's best that they have a cosy roost to return to.

Keeping your coop toasty is one way to make sure your girls stay snuggled up all winter.

🛏️ Add extra bedding, layers of straw, chicken feathers, are great for keeping cosy.

🏠Insulate the coop with chicken friendly insulation.

🧣 Check all drafts and make sure they are bundled up away from wind.

♨️ Some chicken owners also install coop-safe heaters in sub zero temperatures.

👢 Booties are helpful to keep chicken feet from freezing, and the added bonus is that they look ridiculous!

Birds of a feather like to flock together! 👯

Chickens are naturally social birds with plenty of personality, and they thrive when in pairs or groups.

It's important to always make sure to have a friend for your hen, and if that isn't possible, there are tonnes of wonderful charities that will allow you to adopt or put your own chicken up for adoption to a safe farm.

Lonely chickens, aren't happy chickens, so make sure you find them a flock to keep feeling fabulous!

The great debate...to paint or not to paint your chicken wire! 🤔

Now that so many of us are raising chickens there has been a surge of incredible advice and ideas around making your coop even more appealing.

One option is to paint your chicken wire black to make it almost invisible if set against a dark-ish background.

Top tips for feeding your flock during the winter months!❄️

⚖️During the winter everyone likes to eat a bit more including our flock. It is recommended to feed them 1.5 times what you would in the Spring or Summer to help them lay and stay warm. ⁠

😻Try adding a bit of cat food to the feed. The extra nutrients, salt, and protein can help keep them healthy, but make sure the cats cant get in to argue about it!⁠

🪱To help egg production and to keep your chooks cosy, be sure to add mealworms and other protein to their diet. ⁠

🥣Warm them up with porridge. Chickens enjoy the warm food just like us, and the oats give them energy to stay warm for the day, throw in some blueberries for a little extra love.
⁠
🥬To get your hens some greens, try hanging a bunch of kale on the coop to allow them to peck without freezing to the ground. ⁠
