With Halloween just around the corner here's a few things to think about just now when it comes to your pooches ๐ป
๐ท๏ธ Make sure you have a good secure cupboard to store all your sweet treats to avoid any accidental midnight munchies which could end up with a spooky visit to the vet as many treats are toxic to dogs!
๐ท๏ธ If you do dress up your dogs ensure that costumes are not causing abrasions, overheating or any other discomfort. Assess whether your dog is happy about being put in a costume. Some aren't and if that's the case, leave them be ๐งโโ๏ธ
๐ท๏ธIf you live in an area where you know you will get trick or treaters, think about access to your front door. Costumes can be very scary for dogs so perhaps have them in a nice calm area of their home or attach them to a lead in case they bolt โก
๐ท๏ธIf your dog is reactive when it comes to the front door it would be advised to just pop up a wee sign saying not to knock or ring doorbell and leave some sweet treats for people to take somewhere safe by your door.
๐ท๏ธIf you are wearing a costume, to avoid your dog being fearful of you set some time aside to desensitize your dog from items so that they are happier and not stressed (this also applies to new decorations they haven't seen before).
๐ท๏ธHosting a party at your house? Always ensure your dog has a comfortable and quiet place to retreat to. Even if they don't mind costumes etc they may want to go and chill out.
๐ท๏ธLet children know not to jump out and spook your dog and to give them space (for both of their safety) ๐
