One last batch of zoomies with Giz today. Such a happy boy 🐾
We’re so happy when we see our Giz happy 🥰
Some beautiful lead walking from Giz this morning! Look at the ‘J’ shape in the lead and his focus, wow!
Whenever he went in front of us, we gave some slight pressure on the lead and walked in the other direction to get him to realise he needed to be walking with us and not leading the way.
Great job as always, Giz! 🐾
We’re back again this morning with the Orientation Game! Giz loved this game, and he responded really well to it. This game increases your dog’s proximity, increases recall reliability, and makes you the highest value to them. By dishing out treats left, right, and centre, you’re where they want to be! 🐾
Scatter Feeding!
This is a great tool for disengagement. By looking at the floor and sniffing out food/treats, Giz is unaware of the people and dogs passing by. This also builds focus on the handler as your dog will look to you as they know you’re a higher value (because you’re dropping food) than the distractions around them.

DMT (Distrsction, Mark, Treat) with Giz!
Today we focused on Giz becoming more confident in the presence of other dogs. Especially as it is getting warmer now everyone is getting their dogs out earlier, Giz needs to be confident being around groups of dogs! As Giz is a nervous dog, it is important to build his confidence everytime we go out.
We went back to Stage 1 of this game as we needed to refresh Giz’s memory of it. This stage involves saying good everytime your dog is looking away to build value in the word and get them to realise that you are the better option than the distraction. We will continue to work on this in the future! Good job Giz! 🐾
Today was the first day in a long while that Giz could explore his surroundings without fear of other dogs spooking him. It’s a big step in his confidence as he can go at his own speed and work on being comfortable in his surroundings again.

Remember:
When taking your dogs out in this heat, please remember to take lots of water and give them lots of opportunities to chill out in the shade. Dogs can’t regulate themselves the way we can. Do not take your dogs out in temperatures over 25C as this can have detrimental consequences on their health and well-being.
Here’s Giz having some water on our walk this morning. We carry a bottle with a lid which converts to a drinking bowl for easy access to water.

Look at that loose lead walking! 🐾
Today we were working on Giz’s lead walking around and across busy roads. After a short burst of energy in the field, we got to work! Giz was inquisitive about the cars going past but we managed to have some lovely walking across the road.
Giz, you’re awesome! 🐾🐾
Today we were working on disengagement with Giz on our walk. Giz often struggles with other dogs, especially if they’re smaller than him, have more energy than him, or if they’re male.
We worked in an empty but familiar field, with no distractions. Everytime Giz looked away from us, we said our marker word “good”, and rewarded him when he looked at us. This shows him that we are more important than the distractions around us, and shows him that distractions are nothing to be worried about.
We have been building on Giz’s confidence since day one, and we’re always progressing!
Amazing work today, Giz! Keep it up! 🐾
