Meet Barns, a very handsome British Short-haired cat.

He came to us because his owner had noticed changes in his left eye. He had an area of pigmentation which you can clearly see in the picture.

It is very difficult to determine whether these lesions are benign or malignant but we would always ask owners to keep track of any changes and if the size of the lesion gets bigger then to report back to us.

For now Barns has no other issues with his eye and so observation is key.

This is the lovely Simba. A young cat that came to us with a right, corneal perforation back in the summer.

The perforation was complicated by the presence of PPM (Persistent Pupillary Membrane) which are a network of vessels that cover the pupil. Shortly after birth these usually resolve, in Simba's case they did not and so contributed to opacity on the cornea.

The perforation was surgically repaired but months later the strands are still visible as the pictures show.

His eye is now stable and Simba is doing well. Amazing well done Simba πŸ’šπŸ’š

Meet the lovely Cheddar, a cat that came to us with a sore right eye.

On examination we found that Cheddar had formed a sequestrum on his cornea. A sequestrum is a lesion on the cornea that causes irritation and sometimes needs to be removed surgically.

We proceeded with surgery, we also applied a third eyelid flap for protection of his cornea, whilst it healed. This was because Cheddar does not tolerate eye drops very well.

The first picture shows Cheddar post surgery and then once fully healed. Well done Cheddar you handsome boy πŸ’šπŸ’š

Meet Bramble a lovely energetic, young Labrador.

Bramble came to see us with an acute, purulent discharge in his left eye. We needed to give Bramble a general anaesthetic to explore the cause of the discharge as we needed him to keep as still as possible during the procedure.

After exploring his tear duct, we discovered a very large grass seed had lodged deep inside the duct. We flushed and removed the grass seed. As you can see from the picture it was a very big one!!

Bramble recovered well from his anaesthetic and went home that day, looking much happier. Well done Bramble.

Grass seeds are still around, even now that we are nearing the end of the summer season so please check your dog's after walks πŸ’šπŸ’š

This is 2 year old Ghost a French Bulldog that we originally saw last year for a perforated cornea. Unfortunately he came back to see us recently with another perforated cornea but in his other eye, poor Ghost!!

We needed to repair the cornea with a graft, the type of graft we used was a corneal conjunctival transposition (CCT)

The surgery was successful and Ghost is doing well after his post op check.

Ghost you are amazing πŸ’šπŸ’š

Look at this cute dog Teddy that came up see us at the clinic.

Teddy had a dermoid on his right cornea but because of his very young age we needed to wait for him to grow before surgically removing it.

Unfortunately, the dermoid started to cause some discomfort to Teddys eye and so we needed to operate sooner than first thought.

The dermoid was removed easily and a contact lens applied for protection.

Teddy healed well and was much more comfortable. Well done Teddy πŸ’šπŸ’š

Meet the lovely Peggy a French Bulldog that came to see us with not one, but three ulcers on her left cornea.

Two of the ulcers were deep and needed graft surgery which were fairly complicated and the third was more superficial but infected.

Because of all the complications and infection, Peggy has taken a long time to heal but today her eye is finally looking better and very comfortable and visual.

Well done Peggy you have done so well in your recovery πŸ’šπŸ’š

This is the lovely Nellie, a very cute and friendly Jack Russell Terrier.

Nellie came to us with an ulcer in one eye and bilateral discharge. We found that she had Distichiasis on all four of her eyelids and she was in obvious discomfort.

We gave Nellie a general anaesthetic and performed cryo-surgery to remove all of the distichia.

We saw Nellie back a few days later, her eyes were slightly inflamed and uncomfortable but with medication she continued to recover.

At her final post op check she was given the all clear.. Nellie you are the best πŸ’šπŸ’š

Meet Ernie, a very friendly, but big Dogue De Bordeaux (French Mastiff)

Ernie came to see us with very sore eyes due to an ulcer on his right cornea, which was caused by entropion. Entropion is the rolling in of the eyelids, causing irritation. His left eye was also affected.

We corrected the lids and cleaned and protected the ulcer on the right eye with a contact lens.

Ernie came back a week later looking much more comfortable. The picture was taken at his post-op check.

We wish you well in your recovery Ernie, you gentle giant πŸ’šπŸ’š

This very cute puppy is called Merlot and came to us because a tennis ball had hit him in the left eye 😞 Merlot was trying to practice for Wimbledon we think, bless him.

The blunt impact of the ball caused a small bleed inside the eye. Fortunately there was no serious damage done and we were able to treat with topical anti-inflammatory.

The pictures show Merlot before and after looking cute and happy. We wish you well for the future Merlot you superstar πŸ’šπŸ’š

May is Veterinary Nurse Awareness month! This month we will be celebrating and appreciating everything our Veterinary nurses doπŸ‘©β€βš•οΈπŸ’•πŸ©ΊπŸΎ

🌟Veterinary nurses play a vital role in the veterinary team, without them the veterinary surgeons would have great difficulty managing their caseload.🌟

🌟Veterinary nurses have multiple responsibilities within the team. Over the next few weeks we will be sharing some of their daily roles in practice.🌟

🩺Anaesthesia and preparing patients for surgery is a very important daily role of veterinary nurses.

Katie, our veterinary nurse, monitors the anesthesia during surgery and it is her job to make sure your animal is taken care of πŸΎπŸ’š

Here is the lovely Lily, a 1 year old Pekinese dog. Lily came to us because she was suffering with multiple ectopic cillia on all four lids plus bilateral entropion and large nasal folds, with hair touching the eyes.

Unfortunately all of Lily's issues were causing severe discomfort. We performed surgery on Lily to remove the ectopic cillia and reduce the nasal folds down. She also had a medial canthoplasty to correct her entropion.

Lily was amazing through-out all of her surgical procedures and went home the same day.

We have seen Lily back for her post-op check today and as you can see from the pictures she is looking happy and comfortable.

We were so happy to help Lily and the outcome has been amazing πŸ’šπŸ’š

Wolfie you are amazing and we wish you well for your training in the future πŸ’šπŸ’š

Meet Princess an 11 year old cat that was brought in with an extremely painful eye.

On assessment, as you can see in the first two pictures, the cornea was infected and opaque. It was also not responding to antibiotics. We took a swab to send off to the lab to find out what type of infection she had. We also changed the antibiotics that were being used whilst we waited for the results.

As you can see in the next pictures, nearly two weeks later and after the antibiotics were changed, Princess's eye is healing well.

Well done Princess πŸ’šπŸ’š
