💙 Being able to check your horse’s temperature, pulse, and respiration is one of the most valuable skills you can learn as an owner!

Knowing what’s normal for your horse makes it easier to recognize when something isn’t right, and it can save precious time in an emergency. 🚨

💡Practice checking these when your horse is relaxed and healthy. Write them down and keep a record, so if your horse ever seems “off,” you’ll know right away if something seems wrong!

🐴Lameness is one of the most common problems we see in horses, but it isn’t always obvious. Subtle changes in movement or behaviour can be early warning signs that something isn’t right…

Things to look out for
- A shortened or uneven stride
- Reluctance to go forward or work normally
- Head nodding or dipping when trotting
- Uneven hoof wear or dragging of toes
- Changes in behaviour under saddle

Early detection is key – catching lameness at an early stage can make a huge difference to your horses’ comfort and long-term soundness.

If you any of these signs, give us a call to discuss a lameness work up, we have dedicated Lameness Clinics every 4 weeks!

👩🏻‍⚕️💉Our vet Celia was out this week vaccinating an entire riding school against strangles using the Strangvac vaccine.

🦠Strangvac is a big step forward in protecting our horses from this highly contagious disease. After two doses (given four weeks apart), horses begin to develop strong antibody coverage, reducing the risk of infection and limiting the spread of strangles on the yard.

💉We’re incredibly proud to be shaping the future of strangles prevention. Instead of relying on pre-movement blood tests before a horse arrives, why not make vaccination part of your yard policy just as we already do for influenza, tetanus, and in some cases, equine herpes virus? Combine this with a sensible quarantine protocol for new arrivals, and you’ve got a solid biosecurity plan.

📞📧Let’s protect our horses and our communities. Speak to us today about starting a strangles vaccination programme for your yard! 01303 768530 or email [email protected]

🌱⚠️BHS ISSUES WARNING REGARDING SYCAMORE SEEDS ⚠️ 🌱

There has been increased sightings of Sycamore seeds and leaves dropping earlier this year which can cause big problems for your horses and ponies.

Be wary if you have a tree close or inside your paddock! If ingested, it could cause Atypical Myopathy which can be fatal for horses!

If you have any further questions, or need advice please call our office on 01303 768530 or email [email protected]
