Weather Loaches can reach a considerable size, so it's important to provide them with a spacious tank. An aquarium that measures at least 4ft long would be the absolute minimum for their well-being. While they can tolerate adverse water conditions to some extent, it's not the norm and shouldn't be an excuse to neglect their care. These magnificent fish thrive in well-aerated, clean water, so it's crucial to maintain their habitat accordingly. They are highly sociable creatures and should ideally be kept in groups of 3 or more. Interestingly, some Weather Loaches can even become quite friendly and curious towards their owners. They may investigate your hands when you clean the tank or even take food directly from you during feeding time. It's truly a delightful experience to witness their tameness. The name "Weather Loaches" comes from their tendency to exhibit erratic behavior during periods of low atmospheric pressure, almost like living barometers. In the UK, this species is the only one from the Misgurnus genus that is allowed for sale and keeping. Additionally, there is a stunning golden strain of this species that is occasionally available.
