Meet Minnie, the not-so-mini Great Dane!🐶

At 1 year and 5 months old, this gentle giant was pulling her way through walks, and her owners wanted some guidance on how to stop this.

When I first met Minnie, she was a little nervous, but after ten minutes, she showed me her true, super-friendly self!

With just one session, we got her to stop pulling and calmly walk right past those tempting cats.

Her owners were already doing so much right; they just needed some adjustments! They're thrilled with the progress and are still doing an amazing job keeping up with the training. 🙌

I decided to start the mentorship after seeing Liam speak at a protection seminar, and I’m always wanting to learn new skills and techniques, and I’m always wanting to provide the best service for my clients!

🟠Teach Your Dog to Drop It!

Want to teach your pup the "drop" command? Here's how⬇️

1️⃣ Treat Temptation: Place a high-value treat in front of your dog's nose. If the toy isn't too valuable and the treat is exciting enough, your dog should willingly drop the toy in exchange

2️⃣ Praise & Reward: As soon as your dog drops the toy, praise them or use a clicker to mark the behavior, then give them the treat.

Pro Tip: Avoid pulling the toy from their mouth as this creates stimulation and turns it into a game of tug of war. Instead, hold onto the toy and pin it to the ground so it can't move. This makes the game "dead," and your dog will lose interest. As soon as they release, say "drop," reward them, and restart the game, rewarding the drop behavior!

With the weather kicking in, it's important to stay ahead of the heat with our dogs.🥵

1️⃣On hot days try walking your dog earlier in the morning or later at night when the temperature is lower.
2️⃣Prepare some frozen treats to help keep them cool, a kong filled with some of their food once frozen can help keep your dog occupied and cool at the same time
3️⃣Frozen carrots or broccoli stalks are another great treat which can help keep them cool, at the same time cleaning their teeth
4️⃣No cooling mat, no problem. Lay down a damp towel on the tiles for your dog to lay on to cool them down.

🟠WHAT IS A TOY DRIVEN DOG?

Toys aren't just for play—they're an essential part of effective training as they can be used to motivate, reward, and engage your dog in training sessions.

Here’s how:

1️⃣ Motivation:
By using a favorite toy as a reward, you can encourage your dog to listen to commands and learn new behaviors.

2️⃣ Distraction:
Redirect unwanted behavior with the right toy. If your dog is prone to chewing up your couch, redirecting them to a toy will save your furniture and reduce your vet bills.
