🌈 The lovely Sherlock passed away this week. At 13 years old, he was still full of energy...he had a lot of love for the ladies...and he was just the happiest boy all the time. Literally nothing fazed him, he was wonderful to have around.
I've had to write too many of these types of posts this year, it's genuinely heartbreaking every time and by far the hardest part of this job. Sherlock will be greatly missed by us all.
"Dogs don't need to stay around as long as humans, because they already know how to live a good life".

I've absolutely dreaded this day. But, here we are. THE Boy. Naughty Boy. He stole my heart and my soul, and now he's kept them. I am so glad that i got to say "I love you" to him yesterday.
Without the Naughty Boys of this world I honestly don't know that I would have been doing this job for almost 5 years, he meant EVERYTHING to me. Lazy, slow, not at all graceful...he sometimes required his name chanted at him to get him moving (not even kidding). I've had to carry him over mud, shield him from rain, put up with his snoring, and I'd do it all again for that sensitive soul. He could brighten the darkest day, just because he was a happy boy. His gleeful spins will live with me forever. The way he embraced everyone, including my son, maybe especially my son...just perfect.
Yesterday was his last day in this life, and now he's on to his next to brighten someone else's days. Wherever that is, I hope you're reunited with "the lads", the original boys' club with Paco and Marlow for some epic group walks. Some day, I'll see you again.

We've had some lovely new additions over the last few months, and somewhat predictably I've been useless in introducing them! So we've got: Fagan the greyhound, Cybi the miniature schnauzer, Dylan the cavapoo, Squig the Italian greyhound, Daisy the glorious golden retriever (returning after a hiatus 😍), Sylvie the whippet, and Norman the cavapoochon. More intros to come when I get my act together with social media 😅

Some exciting news!

We have extra capacity because.......Peter is now full-time!

Where we were almost completely full across the week, we can now offer additional group walks. If you're a current customer who wants extra walks, let us know. If you're looking for a dog walker, get in touch to discuss our services and arrange a free meet and greet.

Wondering where we cover? The map shows our service area, but there are some exclusions particularly in Rhiwbina, Llanishen, Pontcanna and Central.

Many of you know that Ellie, the service dog, passed away a couple of weeks ago. She was a huge loss to her owner Debbie (and her various walkers) but the difference she made during her time amongst us all was massive.
In her memory, a fundraiser has been set up with proceeds going to the people who trained her to be the magnificent help that she was: Canine Partners

It would be lovely to reach the target set in Ellie's memory. If you can spare anything, please consider donating, it all helps (don't forget to tick the GiftAid box). Although Ellie is completely irreplaceable, anything which can go towards training other dogs to be like her can't be underestimated and it's a truly worth cause.

🌈 Ellie 🌈
This very special girl passed away peacefully this morning and took a piece of our hearts with her.

What made Ellie special? She was a service dog, and a very good one. Frankly, she was remarkable, and I can't even begin to do her justice.

Even in her senior years, she was still an energetic girl, and she continued her walks as long as she could. When she was on the lead she considered herself to be working, but when she was off the lead it was time to party... usually with biscuits.

At nearly 13 years old, it's time for a rest and she has more than earned it but the impact she had on us can't be understated. She brightened our lives with her beautiful soul.
We will miss her immensely, as will the countless people whose lives she touched. Our thoughts are with her owner Debbie at this really sad time.

Yesterday was Poppy's 10th birthday! She celebrated with barking, whinging and tripping everybody up...and we wouldn't have it any other way. Her big present this year: a YuMove subscription 😅

Not the start to 2024 anyone wanted. Marlow. Friend of everyone, best friend if there was a treat involved. Today he made his last trip 🌈.

One of my very first customers, possibly even THE first. It took me about 18 months to figure out that Marlow had a "tell" for when he was about to charge off into the depths of the undergrowth and snaffle something he shouldn't: his tail would point straight up in the air, then it would kink in the middle and the tip would point in the direction of the delicious smell...then he'd look over his shoulder to see if I'd noticed and whether I'd got the treats out ready to convince him it was more worth his while to remain next to me. An extended illness didn't change that, nor did it stop him enjoying his walks.

He was an absolute pleasure, even though he occasionally jumped up on strangers when he thought they had food...oh and when he stole a fisherman's bait stock...and then there was the time he hid in a bush because someone had tucked away a bag full of goodies that he didn't want to share...and when he sneakily nibbled his way through the bottom of my treat pouch to pinch biscuits when I was drying his paws...you get the idea, the boy could eat. And we loved him for it.

All of that makes it sound like he was a pest, but he wasn't, he was a beagle doing his beagle thing. Marlow had the best temperament. He could be paired with literally any dog. He was a master of the group walk, the one you could utterly rely on to make new dogs feel comfortable and I know his two and four legged friends will miss him dearly.

From all of us at Waggy Walks, past and present, thank you Marlow for being you. For running, playing, singing and being a fun boy, and for making the humans laugh. Never change you beautiful soul, forever be you.

We miss you 💔

And the other welcome I foolishly missed is to Roman the staffy. Another who's been with us a couple of months, he loves...LOVES... playing chase with Mali. Doesn't really stop running unless it's in his interest (treats).

Some welcomes that have slipped through the net! First up is Mali, the Dutch Shepherd, who's been with us now for almost 2 months and is (in the nicest possible way) mad. The loveliest girl, a great temperament and all round good dog. She is rarely still enough for a good photo 😅
