Great to see the horse clipper I sharpened in action. Gorgeous 😌
If you follow these instructions in maintaining your clipper blade and you still struggle cutting your dog, or the clipper is working too hard, then it’s time to get them sharpened.
1: Start an end of day or end of dog maintenance programme with practice it takes minutes.
2. Clippers generate heat, if the blade is cleaned and oiled not only will it cut better, it will allow your clipper to work easier. (You can hear and feel the clipper struggling when a blade is blunt or isn’t clean and oiled)
3. Follow the instructions in the video.
a) remove the blade from the clipper
b) slide the cutting edge sideways and clean the dander and debris from the blade, a toothbrush is ideal for this, do both edges of the blade.
c) wipe with a cloth and use a blade sterilising solution. A couple of sprays on each side is sufficient.
d) slide the cutting edge to one side and put a drop of oil on the top and bottom slides. Again do both edges of the blade.
e) clean any debris in your clipper
f) put the blade back on the clipper and run for a few seconds. Wipe any excess oil off the outside of the blade as you don’t want this on your dog.
And finally, If you’re not using the blade, store it so that it’s not exposed to any damp, a clipper roll is ideal for this.

Scissor and clipper blade, before and after
As an engineer who used to make their own tools and now a Dog groomer, it was getting frustrating when a clipper blade went blunt or became blocked.
So after a lot of research, I completed an intense training course and invested in scissor and clipper blade grinding equipment imported from the USA.
Although Dog Grooming is my passion, I want to help other groomers by being able to maintain clipper blades and scissors to a high standard.
After resharpening my own clippers and refurbishing numerous scissor’s I know what a difference this makes.
