Happy new year! We are closed today to give the staff some time off but we open again as usual from tomorrow.

2025 was an amazing year for Reptile Cymru. A huge thanks to our amazing staff team (Ben, Fay, Dave, Jon, Andreea, Beth) for all their hard work, and to all of the work experience, university placements and volunteers who've helped out over the year. We opened the new shop and it's been such a huge quality of life increase for both staff, animals and customers. I have no words to say how much work getting it all set up was - so many nights spent there, with help from friends like Meg, David, Phil, Andy and Dan who often helped until midnight to get us open on time - but absolutely worth it. Huge thanks to my mum, Pat, for her tireless work behind the scenes. If she hadn't let me get my first corn snake when I was 12 years old then we wouldn't be here! This new shop really is the dream that I imagined when I started working in the reptile industry over 20 years ago.

In March we celebrated our 18th birthday as a business and we were absolutely blown away by all the support. I never imagined so many people would turn up to wish us well - absolutely insane. Dave brought his animals from Animal Zone UK for people to handle, Pete from Reptile Zone Crocs R Us brought his crocodiles for handling and Sophie from Origin Vets shared information about biology and husbandry and professional photographer Kara gave her time to take photos, both during this event, and of rescues during the year to help find them homes. We are so grateful for everyone who helped or supported us.

Onwards and upwards to 2026 and all the wonderful things it will bring - Christy.

Merry Christmas everyone!

You might be wondering what happens to the animals when we're closed. Even when the shop is closed staff members will still attend to all the needs of the animals. On Christmas Day and Boxing Day even though we're not open to the public everyone still gets cared for, watered, cleaned and fed. All of our lights are controlled by timers, and all of our heating elements are controlled by thermostats. With modern technology and thermostats like the Microclimate EVO range we can see the temperatures of most of the enclosures from home too on an app, which is super cool!

If you have animals boarding with us over the Christmas period (and there's a lot of you, as we're pretty much full!) they will get plenty of attention over Christmas, even if we're not open to the public.

Any business involving animals requires care 365 days a year, no exceptions, but it's okay, because we're all in it because we're passionate about the animals. A big shoutout and thank you to all the staff from myself (Christy) - Ben, Fay, Dave, Andreea, Jon and Beth have all worked so hard this Christmas to make sure both animals and customers get exactly what they need.

Our thanks to Origin Vets Clinic for microchipping Tiki and Takota's first babies! We are just waiting for the CITES paperwork to be returned and then two of these (one male and one female) will be ready to go to new homes. Serious enquiries welcome as we can reserve now.

🦎 What a stunning species to work with! 🦎

One of our exotic nurses Liz Simpson was in her element this week as she was microchipping these absolutely stunning Fiji Iguana juveniles that were bred by a local reptile shop Reptile Cymru
We are very proud to work alongside so many amazing shops around the area and to continue the education in both a veterinary clinic and the shops too.

These are a beautiful species and are sadly endangered in the wild so they are on the cites list meaning any captive bred animal must be microchipped to apply for a certificate as proof it is captive bred.

This species is s*xual dimorphic meaning you can easily s*x them by the difference in appearance even at a young age. The males have larger darker bands and develop large dorsal crests int heir head and down the spines too.

Go on give them some love ! ❤️

Our Story

We - Christy and Ben Bruckner - opened Reptile Cymru in 2007 with the aim of providing high quality captive bred reptiles with a focus on animal welfare and sustainability within the pet trade.

As a family-run independent small business, we can focus on the things that are most important to us - which is increasing awareness of how to correctly care for reptiles and ensuring that our animals go to the correct homes. We want you to be happy with your reptiles, and for them to be happy with you too!

We’ll always try to price-match where possible and offer excellent value for money, so if you’re thinking about buying elsewhere, just have a chat with us and we’ll see what we can do for you.

By supporting Reptile Cymru, you support a community focused business and help us to put our energy and finance into ecological sustainability, education, awareness and rescuing and rehoming exotics that need a second chance, something we receive no funding for.
