Please post your pics of the weekend in this thread, we'd love to see them!

We were all blown away by the turnout over the weekend. We had so many lovely comments, especially from parents of children who were nervous about reptiles or had never met one before. Education and helping the next generation join the community, or just have a healthy respect for animals and nature, is so important to us. Our £10 off £100 deal on ANYTHING in store will be running until Friday 28th March to allow for anyone who found it a bit busy/overwhelming on the weekend to still make it in and benefit from the deal.

I'd like to say a huge thank you to the people who made the weekend a success, first of course the staff - Ben, Fay, Dave, Jon, Andreea and volunteer Maddie. We also had loads of help from volunteer Juniper and thanks to Kara who took some photos for us. We have the dream team right now! Then our special guests who made the weekend so amazing:

Dave from Animalzoneuk https://animalzoneuk.com/ who brought some of his animals including the burmese pythons, tegu, red foot tortoise, bullfrog and more. Animal Zone UK is a not for profit rescue centre and offers educational and birthday parties/visits.

Pete (and his assistant) from https://www.crocsrus.com/ Reptile Zone / Crocs R Us who brought Ali G and Tinkerbell the Alligators to visit us. Crocs R Us is an encounter company with a difference - you can meet the crocs and have an educational and unique experience. You can even swim with them!

Dr Megan Davis was running our free crafting table and also is an NHS psychologist. She is now offering private therapy and can help with a variety of different needs, and in conjunction with us can offer therapy for reptile / spider phobias as well. Contact [email protected] to discuss.

Dr Sophie Jenkins, Exotic Vet, founder of Origin Vets Clinic https://www.originvetsclinic.co.uk/ who was showing some interesting medical information and telling us about the services she offers. Her veterinary clinic near Newport Road in Cardiff specializes in all exotics, small mammals, and is now offering services for cats as well.

And last but not least, Squishy Fauna (who made our logo!) https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/squishyenby were offering their range of original art work in the form of stickers, keyrings, pin badges and colouring books. It was amazing to see so many people supporting a local artist and we'll have an exciting announcement to make about this soon as well, so watch this space.

Just to let everyone know we are extremely busy - pretty much at capacity. The queue to see the alligators is currently at least an hour and we do anticipate it getting even busier. If you're looking to buy please head to the till through the crowds so we can serve you straight away as the queues are just for handling. Hermann's Tortoises and Western Dwarf Hermann's Tortoises (the photo of three) back in stock! Western Dwarf Hermann's are a great option for those looking for something smaller, as they grow half the size of a Hermann's but still have a big personality! All come with CITES paperwork and Microchipped.

Horsfield Tortoises: We are getting a lot of requests for these. CITES has currently placed a hold on the importation of this species. Almost all of the Horsfield tortoises in the UK come in from tortoise farms in Europe and are not bred here. CITES is concerned about the numbers of these being exported and is conducting an investigation into their origin and numbers. This is ultimately for their protection and to ensure a safe and ethical trade. There is no ETA on when this hold will be lifted or if any further action will be taken by CITES. But we do not anticipate having these back in stock any time soon.

Adult female Musk Turtle, very cute, active, enjoys her food and will even hand feed. The tank she came in is too small so we would like you to have your own tank, ideally 3ft or larger, however she can come with her accessories such as water heater, filter, clamp lamp, UVB bulb (brand new replaced by us this week).

ON HOLD!!! - REHOME / RESCUE: Are you an experienced snake keeper who could offer a permanent home to an adult female Mangrove Snake (Boiga dendrophila gemmicincta). She is very spicy! 🌶🌶🌶 Not handleable, a striker (like launching herself out of the enclosure when I'm taking a photo...) and needs a hook so must go to someone experienced with a suitable enclosure. But isn't she beautiful and very rarely seen! Let's get this girl a home.

BIRTHDAY WEEKEND 22nd/23rd March! SPECIAL OFFERS! FREE STUFF! KEEP READING!

Opening the shop has been life changing for Ben and I. We love being able to share our passion for reptiles with the world. There have been stressful times galore, but hard work and team work have always seen us through. We've made tons of friends along the way and every bit of hard work is worth it. 2025 gave us the massive upgrade that you've all seen and we're so happy to be moving forward to celebrate our 18th birthday. Can you imagine trying to host a party at the old shop?

We will be celebrating on Saturday March 22nd and Sunday March 23rd. On Saturday we will have Dave from Animal Zone UK offering handling sessions as well as Ben. On Sunday Ben will continue offering handling sessions and we will also have a good friend of the shop, Meg, with a free crafting table. You can make your own beaded lizard keyring, or have a go at designing an ironing bead craft. Suitable for adults or kids alike!

On both days we will have a super special offer of SPEND £100 AND GET £10 OFF which is an ideal time to order a new setup, replace your lights or stock up on some new decor. This offer is on anything in store bought on 22nd & 23rd March.

We will also have a free prize draw running to win £50, £20 and 3 x £10 gift vouchers, one entry per day but visit both days and double up - this is in addition to the prize draw running on social media. We will have a paid raffle running throughout the weekend which is a £1 per raffle ticket to win a £100 gift card. This is also just a great opportunity to spend £1 to help the rescues, as all the money we raise will go into the rescue pot. We'll post a video up with the winners being drawn.

Finally there will be free cupcakes whilst stocks last! So get 22nd March / 23rd March added to your calendar.

IN STOCK NOW! We are stocking the new range of Exo Terra T5 UVB Tubes. These are so far reporting well in independent lighting tests, offering a bit more horizontal range than Arcadia but still maintaining strength. They're available in UVB100 (3%), UVB200 (7%) and UVB300 (14%), from 12" to 46". They fit in the Arcadia Hoods if you already have an Arcadia T5 Pro Kit and they are quite a bit cheaper in price, so are a good way to make a saving right now. We will be testing these out as well as keeping an eye on professional news and spectrometer tests run by lighting specialists but it's great to see more competitive products on the market.

Reptile Cymru will celebrate 18 years of business in March this year. We'll be running some competitions and a special birthday weekend with handling, crafts and more. One of the things I'd love to do is create a memory reel of the last 18 years. If you've bought a reptile or taken any photos in the shop since we've been open, I would absolutely love it if you could share a photo (or as many as you want!) with us, with permission for us to add that to our reel. If you can share what year it was taken in too where possible!

Everyone included in the reel will be entered into a competition to win a £25 voucher to spend in store.

Our resident Sailfin Dragon, Dina, eating breakfast. Raspberries are definitely the favourite.

Apologies to any customers today affected by the person abusing both staff and customers as well as families and children due to our COVID safety rules. We are a small shop and can only have two households in at a time to protect each other and the staff. Saturdays are a busy day and December is a busy month so there may be a wait outside to be served sometimes. Anyone being abusive, aggressive or threatening to staff or other customers as happened today will be permanently banned from the shop with zero tolerance and we will involve the police if necessary. A big thank you to all of our wonderful customers who support us as fortunately this situation is very rare.

We - Christy and Ben Bruckner - opened Reptile Cymru in 2007 with the aim of providing high quality captive bred reptiles with a focus on animal welfare and sustainability within the pet trade.

As a family-run independent small business, we can focus on the things that are most important to us - which is increasing awareness of how to correctly care for reptiles and ensuring that our animals go to the correct homes. We want you to be happy with your reptiles, and for them to be happy with you too!
