Reptile Cymru will celebrate 18 years of business in March this year. We'll be running some competitions and a special birthday weekend with handling, crafts and more. One of the things I'd love to do is create a memory reel of the last 18 years. If you've bought a reptile or taken any photos in the shop since we've been open, I would absolutely love it if you could share a photo (or as many as you want!) with us, with permission for us to add that to our reel. If you can share what year it was taken in too where possible!

Everyone included in the reel will be entered into a competition to win a £25 voucher to spend in store.

Just to update those waiting to take animals home, our inspection for the year has been completed and passed with flying colours and any reserved animals can now go home!

WORK EXPERIENCE / PLACEMENTS: Due to the bigger shop we now have more space for work experience placements and volunteers. We can offer short or long-term placements to people who are studying towards animal care courses, veterinary or animal science related degrees.

Volunteers aren't expected to offer any advice, speak to customers or handle money at all, but learn how to take care of a variety of animals including feeding and cleaning and can gain confidence around both animals and people. You do need to be able to go into enclosures with a variety of reptiles and to feed live insects.

Holiday Boarding prices for 2025. Prices have increased slightly but we've tried to keep them as low as possible and don't forget all food is included, both salad and livefood where species appropriate, including supplementation as well! Please book as early as possible if travelling during peak dates, particularly the summer holidays - we do get fully booked every year.

Canton shop will be closed and our new address from Weds 15th January opens 7 days a week with a large, free, unlimited time car park is Unit 10, Freemans Park, Penarth Road, CF118EQ.

In case you missed the previous announcement, we're opening at a new, much larger property on Wednesday 15th January. The address is Unit 10, Freemans Parc, Penarth Road, CF11 8EQ.

This weekend some of the animals and enclosures will be moving from Canton to the Penarth Road property. Although there are over 40 brand new tanks at the new property, we also need to re-use all our current tanks, and in order to get everything set up, check all our temperatures and be ready for our licensing inspection, they need to be moved in advance. We will have livefood and dry goods available up until the move. If you are picking up boarders before the 15th January rest assured they are unaffected by what's going on.

If visiting this weekend you may encounter a shop that looks a bit dishevelled and in the process of being deconstructed, and some animals will not be available to see. If travelling, please give us a call on 02920 190291 to let us know what you're interested in so we can make sure we don't move it, or it may be best to delay it until next weekend to see everything in the new location.

There may be delayed responses to social media and emails for the next week but the phones will be answered so please call if you have a query. Please be gentle with us during this busy period of moving as all the staff are working absolutely flat out to make it go as smoothly as possible for you and all the animals.

MOVING ANNOUNCEMENT! The sign is up so it's not a secret anymore 🤩

We will be opening at our new location on 15th January. From 15th January the shop in Canton will be closed.

The new location open 7 days a week from 15th January is:
Unit 10, Freeman's Parc, Penarth Road, CF11 8EQ

We share a large car park with Flashpoint and several other businesses but there's plenty of space for everyone! This car park is behind Costa Coffee on Penarth road. Attached a map showing location.

If you're travelling via public transport we are a 10 minute walk from Grangetown Train Station, a 5 minute walk from a bus stop serving numbers 94, 92, 92B, 93 or a 15 minute walk from bus number 9.

HOLIDAY BOARDERS: If you have a boarding booking with us that drops off before 15th Jan and picks up after, we will move your pets directly to the new location and into the same enclosure as before. You will need to collect from the new location if collecting after 15th Jan.

We're excited to see you all at the new location, things might be in a bit of a mess to start with so please bear with us over the next few months!

Happy new year!

A big thank you to all our supporters from 2024, in 3 months we will be celebrating our 18th birthday. Ben & I opened the shop when we were 24 years old and now we get to celebrate being 18 again, neat trick... Bricks and mortar reptile shops can only exist in todays challenging business climate with your support. We may not always be the very cheapest because of online giants, but we hope that the experience we have to offer, the animal care we provide and personalised advice available to all is worth keeping us around for many more years to come.

This year we bred our own bearded dragons, leopard geckos, tokay geckos, gargoyle geckos, crested geckos, mourning geckos, day geckos, boa constrictors, amazon tree boas, rainbow boas, corn snakes, Mexican black king snakes, Honduran milk snakes and dart frogs allowing us to be confident about the quality of the animals we sell. In 2025 we hope to add tri-coloured hognoses, uromastyx, Fiji iguanas and emerald skinks to the list.

And of course a massive shout out to the whole team from Ben and I. The shop wouldn't be what it was without amazing staff, so a thank you for 2024 to Megan, Fay, Pat, Dave, Andreea, Jon and all of the volunteer and work experience placements too.

Please note we close at 4pm today and are closed tomorrow (New Year's Day), then it's all back to normal. Well - as normal as it can be when you're working on a huge move!

Lots of people have been asking for the new address but we're not ready to publish that yet - we don't want to have two addresses published and people be confused about which one is open or ending up going to the new address, but rest assured it's not far away (Penarth Road) and is going to be well worth the wait. As soon as we have a set opening date we will let you know.

We have three captive bred baby Painted Dragons (also known as Painted Agamas, laudakia stellio brachydactyla) in stock! These are a lesser known species as pets but it's amazing to see them being captive bred in the UK. Whilst fast as babies, they tame down really well. Care is very similar to a Bearded Dragon, but they're half the size, and have attractive peach and orange markings.

Available in store now. Open 7 days a week. Closed 25th & 26th December.

Male Nosy Mitsio Panther Chameleon & Female Jackson's Chameleon available for sale in store and ready to go to new homes now! We sell full chameleon setups and can even have everything assembled and ready to plug right in for you.

We also have a young female Panther chameleon available for rehoming who came to us missing half her tail. Please message if interested.
