Red Foot Tortoises Back in Stock - Reserve now, collect after our health check period.

These are a tropical species that grow larger than Mediterranean species. They need to live inside in a vivarium all year around (can go outside on sunny days but brought back in at night) and do not hiberate. Babies need to go into a 4x2x2 but an adult needs a 6x2x2 or a large space to exercise daily. I know a lot of people are waiting for Hermann's Tortoises right now and there are still delays in the supply of these due to CITES. A Red Foot Tortoise is not a replacement for those wanting a Mediterranean species that can live in the garden, but they are a wonderful tortoise in their own right with absolutely tons of personality.

If you'd like to learn about them we have a care guide here: https://www.reptilecymru.co.uk/red-foot-tortoise-care-guide/

We would like to express our heartfelt condolences from the team here to the family and friends of Darren Biggs, who passed away today. His passing will leave a big hole in the reptile community.

Dear friends and colleagues, it is with profound sadness that we must today report that Darren has lost his battle with cancer. As many people know, Darren has been very ill for a long time, yet he has consistently worked throughout despite being consumed with pain and discomfort.

Never seeking sympathy and with barely a complaint (just a stubborn streak a mile wide and not wanting to let people down), the tenacity with which Darren has fought cancer and other complications with health over the past 3 years has been nothing short of astounding - leaving family and friends in awe of the amount of fight still left in him.

Darren passed away surrounded by his wonderful son and his precious mother. Darren held on for them to say goodbye and then drifted peacefully away.

We are heartbroken, but we are also deeply grateful for the time we had, he will be missed dreadfully by all those who loved him..
Please bear with us in store as we come to grips with this devastating news & join us by adding a post of love and admiration for our captain, Darren Biggs

Sharing REPTA (Reptile and Exotic Pet Trade Association)'s stance on negative genetic genes and ethics in reptiles. We can confirm that we do not breed nor sell any of the genes on this list, although we do still get some in for rehoming - so it's clear there are people, even in the local area, who are continuing to breed despite overwhelming evidence about the negative traits. If you see any of these in store (for example, we currently have a spider morph that was handed over last week), they will be with a clear rehoming/rescue label on them and rehomed strictly only to pet homes who understand the potential problems.

Anyone breeding any reptile for any reason has a responsibility to educate themselves about the health of those reptiles and all of the potential complications. Ignorance is no excuse.

Sharing this Kickstarter because I'm so excited about the project and can't wait to get my hands on mine. We love to support small businesses, local businesses and independent creatives. This Rainbow Isopod plushie is designed and being sold by Squishy Fauna who also did the logo that you'll find on our shop uniforms, shop pin badges and stickers. They are Cardiff based and have supported the shop for many years, have lots of rescues from us and you may have met them selling their artwork on stickers, keyrings and badges at the birthday weekend.

If you're not familiar with Kickstarter do be aware of the shipping date as you're backing now to receive the product once it's fully produced.

Our Story

We - Christy and Ben Bruckner - opened Reptile Cymru in 2007 with the aim of providing high quality captive bred reptiles with a focus on animal welfare and sustainability within the pet trade.

As a family-run independent small business, we can focus on the things that are most important to us - which is increasing awareness of how to correctly care for reptiles and ensuring that our animals go to the correct homes. We want you to be happy with your reptiles, and for them to be happy with you too!

We’ll always try to price-match where possible and offer excellent value for money, so if you’re thinking about buying elsewhere, just have a chat with us and we’ll see what we can do for you.

By supporting Reptile Cymru, you support a community focused business and help us to put our energy and finance into ecological sustainability, education, awareness and rescuing and rehoming exotics that need a second chance, something we receive no funding for.
