📍 Important Update from the team.

In 2023, Valley Vets entered into a voluntary collective agreement with Unite the Union (Unite), and earlier this year we entered into salary negotiations. Whilst our salary reviews are always compared to industry benchmarking and benchmark well, the union proposed very significant increases, initially 25% increase in costs, expressing that pay and conditions in the veterinary sector as a whole are considered to be poor and wished our practice to be the practice to set new higher levels for the industry. Unfortunately, as a business we would not be able to sustain such increases within Valley Vets without a very high risk of redundancies and/or closing sites or passing on very large fee increases. We know that veterinary fees have already increased over time, and this scale of increase is not something we would be prepared to pass on to our clients. We are committed to improving terms and conditions for all our fantastic team and will continue to do so in a proportionate and sustainable way.

We are saddened that we were unable to reach a mutual agreement and on Tuesday 2nd July, we were notified that the union members have exercised their right to take industrial action and will be striking from 16th to 30th July 2024.

It goes without saying that our priority is, and always will be, our patients, their owners and of course our team. We respect that union members within our team may exercise their right to participate in this industrial action, and so we are currently putting provisions in place to ensure that above all else, patient welfare isn't compromised. As we do not currently know what our staffing levels will be, and to ensure we can run a full emergency service, we have made the very difficult decision to close our branch surgeries in Ystrad Mynach, Caerphilly, Pentyrch and Gabalfa. We will also be closing our referral services for the duration of the strike period, but a specialist emergency exotics service will remain in place as usual on weekdays.

As a minimum, rest assured that we will be providing a 24/7 emergency service from our hospital site in Gwaelod y Garth, and we will be working with our clients to accommodate appointments for pets that are non-urgent but time sensitive, such as second vaccinations, allergy injections etc as best we can.

Thank you for your continued patience, and please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our hospital team on 02920 001454 if you have any questions.

We hope to reopen our branches on 30th July at 9am as usual, however should we anticipate any more disruption to our services we will update you as soon as possible

We very much appreciate and value your continued support. We only hope that you'll continue to stand by us, as many of you have done for so many years. 💛

Wishing our longest standing member of staff
A belated Happy 60th Birthday 🎉🎂

Marian doesn't like being in the spotlight but has been working for Gedrys Farm Kennels for 17 years. Which she feels "hasn't been that long" 😅 (her words)

Here's to a few more years before she decides to retire.

This year instead of sending Christmas cards, Gedrys Farm will be donating to charities instead

The team have selected Friends of Animals Wales for all the great work they do locally, Battersea Dog’s Home in memory of animal lover Paul O’Grady and St Mungo's the only homeless charity that takes dogs too!

We’d like to take this opportunity to wish all our customers - two legged and four legged - a very Merry Christmas! Best wishes for 2024!

The Gedrys Team xx

Update @ 10.40am
The road Infront of treforest train station is not clear (willowford road)
There was a articulated lorry blocking the road and had to reverse back.
Maesmawr Road still has a partical road closure on one side.

Road closures.
Staff have been informed this morning that there are road closures at upper boat and Maesmawr Road.

Gwaelod-y-garth is open so you should be able to get to us through there.
It is a 1 lane village for those who don't know so will most likely be busy if both roads are closed.
We have checked Google maps and it is not marked on the map as closed.
The blue on the map are the closed roads.

Please check your journeys this afternoon as well. Thank you

Gedrys Farm is still open and the drop off and pick up times are still the same.

Final Update.
The roads are all back open and there should not be an issue driving from the A470 over upper boat and to the kennels. Thank you

UPDATE!!

Update from this morning's post, there is a high volume of traffic on all the roads surrounding upper boat and a higher volume of cars parked outside Gregg's. This is due to surrounding businesses unable to access their car parks. Please take extra care in the area. Thank you x

Good Morning everyone

Due to the incident in Treforest yesterday evening part of the road is closed which is highlighted in red on the map below.

You are still able to get to us via upper boat past Gregg's or through Gwaelod.

Our drop off and pick times will stay the same so please plan your journey accordingly Thank you x

Saturday, the 2nd Sept from 12pm, the wonderful hoomans from The Rescue Hotel will be bringing a group of us adorable dogs to visit you at The Gwaelod y Garth Inn. They do an amazing job you know, looking after us homeless dogs and if we’re really lucky they find us a family who give us a home for life. They will be happy to answer any of your questions about adopting a rescued dog. And can you believe the lovely team from The Gwaelod will be donating 50p from every sale of their scrumptious Dog’s Dinner, bought over the weekend, to The Rescue Hotel and £1 from every GyG Dog Bandana sold too. Woof woof, see you there 🐶

❗️ Road closure Gwaelod-Y-Garth ❗️

If you are coming to us between Monday 21st August - Friday 25th August please note that the road through Gwaelod will be closed during the below hours

You will be able to access the kennels via Treforest Industrial Estate (directions to the kennels can be found on our website)

21/07/2023

⭐️ Price changes - please see website for details ⭐️

Due to the ever rising costs of energy bills, maintenance fees and dog food, we have made the difficult decision to increase our prices. These prices reflect the cost of running our business, in order to carry on providing the best care possible for our guests 🐶

All new bookings made for 1st November 2023 onwards will be charged at the new price. All bookings previously made that have already paid a deposit will honour the current price

☀️ We are always looking to improve our business and are currently constructing TWO extra enclosed fields for our guests to enjoy, meaning all of our doggie friends will spend even more time outside in the sun ☀️

📧 Confirmation Emails (please check your spam) 📧

Can we remind all customers to please READ their confirmation emails! You can then check the dates booked, and check the drop-off and pick-up times. Late check-out must be booked in advance, kennel availability permitting

💉 All confirmation emails also have each individual dog’s vaccination information - it is very important that you ensure your dog is fully vaccinated for the full stay

💉 If a vaccination(s) state ‘Expired’ you will need to bring the vaccination card on drop-off, so we can update our records. Alternatively, you can email us a photo of the vaccination card (which lessens the risk of forgetting the card!)

❗️ Proof of full vaccinations is needed otherwise we will not be able to accept your dog for a stay. We would hate for you to miss your holiday because we haven’t seen the vaccination card ❗️
