Did You Know Silica Gel Can Be Dangerous for Dogs?

With Christmas gifts arriving, it’s common to find those little silica gel packets tucked into packaging. While they’re great at keeping items dry, they can pose serious risks to your dog if swallowed.

Here’s why:

⚠️Toxicity: Some silica gel packets contain additives that can be harmful to dogs.
⚠️Choking hazard: The small packets can easily block a dog’s airway.
⚠️Dehydration: Silica gel absorbs moisture, which could lead to dehydration if consumed.

If your dog does manage to eat silica gel, contact your vet straight away for advice.

Be sure to safely dispose of any packets you find when unpacking or preparing gifts for wrapping, and keep them well out of reach of curious noses. Let’s keep our dogs safe this Christmas! 🐶❤️

Hi everyone, I’m Meinir 🙋🏼‍♀️ and I thought it was time to reintroduce myself!

I’m the proud owner of Home on the Farm, where I provide daycare and home boarding for some truly wonderful dogs.

My business started because of my deep love for animals and the joy I feel in giving dogs a safe, happy place to stay when their owners can’t be with them. Every day spent with these incredible dogs is a privilege, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything!

Since it’s December 1st, I thought I’d share a fun festive fact about me: at the grand old age of 36, I’m hosting Christmas for the first time ever! 🎄 Adding a bit more excitement to the occasion, I’m a vegetarian who absolutely cannot cook. Needless to say, my guests are probably feeling a mix of excitement and slight nervousness about what’s on the menu this Christmas Day! But hey, there’s always crackers, cheese, and plenty of mulled wine to save the day, right? 🍷🎅

While November is fully booked, there is availability in December, January, and February. The green squares are the days with availability.

Boarding may be available on the days which show availability but please get in touch if you need this. As always, boarding is only offered to dogs who regularly attend daycare. This helps ensure they’re familiar with the surroundings and feel safe and comfortable during their stay 🐶

Socialising in a small, supervised group helps build confidence, encourages calm behaviour, and gives them a chance to bond with other dogs.

Today is World Kindness Day, a perfect reminder to show a little extra kindness to the dogs in our lives! 🐾

Kindness for our dogs can mean giving them the time and patience they need to explore, keeping their routines calm and consistent, and understanding what helps them feel safe and happy. Small acts of kindness, like letting them sniff a bit longer on walks or creating a cosy space at home, can make a huge difference in their day.

As we say goodbye to pumpkin season, we decided to get a bit “boujee” with our pup cups! 🍸✨

Our pups enjoyed their pumpkin-flavoured ‘cocktails’ in style. These treats were made with goat’s milk and a dash of pumpkin powder, served in elegant little glasses. Goat’s milk is packed with probiotics to support a healthy gut, while pumpkin powder adds a boost of fibre and essential nutrients like Vitamin A, which helps keep their coats shiny and their digestion on track.
