🎆🎇🎇 Let's ease cat firework anxiety with these five top tips 🎆🎇🎇

Create a Cosy Hideaway: Set up a snug space for your cat to retreat to during the fireworks. A quiet corner with their favourite blanket or a covered cat bed can provide comfort and security

Food & Water Access: Make sure your cat has access to food and water throughout the night. If you know fireworks are coming, consider feeding them a little earlier to reduce stress during mealtime

Secure Your Home: Close all windows and doors to prevent your frightened kitty from darting outside. Use curtains or blinds to block out flashes of light from the fireworks

Play Soothing Sounds: Use soft music or turn on the TV to help mask the sound of fireworks. Cats often find comfort in familiar noises, which can help ease their anxiety

Provide Hiding Spots: Cats love to hide! Leave boxes or tunnels around for your cat to explore and retreat to when they feel scared. These spaces can make them feel safer

Toilet Time: Try to get your dog to go to the toilet before the fireworks start and keep them indoors during the displays

Food & Water Access: For dogs that struggle to eat when stressed, ensure they have access to food and water all night. If you know when the worst nights for fireworks will be, feed your dog late afternoon or early evening before the noise begins

Secure Your Home: Make sure your home is secure by closing
all doors and windows, as scared pets can sometimes bolt. Close curtains and blinds to minimise flashes

Create Background Noise: Play moderately loud rhythmic music with a good beat to help mask the sound of fireworks. Alternatively, familiar sounds like the TV may also comfort your dog

Prevent Trapping: Ensure your dog cannot get trapped, as this may worsen their phobias. Avoid shutting them in tight spaces

Keep your furry friends safe this spooky season.
Beware of these Halloween treats that are poisonous to dogs:
chocolate, sweets, caramel apples, macadamia nuts, chocolate raisins, and sweet wrappers.
Even small amounts can be dangerous, so make sure to keep these treats out of reach.
If your dog has eaten any of these, take your pet straight to the vet.
Opt for pet-friendly snacks instead and ensure your pup has a howling good time!
Stay vigilant and enjoy a fun, safe Halloween with your pets!

Costumes can be fun and adorable, but it's important to keep your pets safe. Here are some dos and don’ts:
🎃 DO:
Ensure the costume fits well, allowing your pet to move freely
Pick costumes made from soft, breathable materials
Avoid small, dangling parts
Make sure the costume doesn't obstruct vision or hearing
Let your pet try it on before Halloween
Always keep an eye on your pet in costume
🎃 DON’T:
Don't use anything that covers your pet's face
Avoid tight costumes or those that can get tangled
Be aware of materials that might cause irritation
Don't leave the costume on for long, especially if your pet is uncomfortable

Remember, your pet's safety and comfort come first! If they show signs of distress, opt for a festive bandana or collar instead.

🐾🐾Slowing down on walks? 🐾🐾
It's easy to assume they're just getting old, but…often, it's a sign of something more, like arthritis or lameness. Senior dogs might need slower, sniffy walks to stay comfortable and happy.
They could also benefit from eating a bit less and having a padded bed to ease joint pain.
Don’t forget regular nail trims since they're not walking as much. If you notice these mobility changes, it’s time for a vet check-up.

❤ MJ joined the practice a few weeks ago and has been settling in well.

❤ MJ graduated from Glasgow university in July 2024, she was born in sunny Singapore but fell in love with the UK and decided to stay.

🐾 MJ is currently exploring her interests but has a keen interest in surgery and internal medicine.

🐾 In her spare time she likes hiking, exploring new towns and searching for new cafe's and restaurants to try out.

As you can see Kathryne has made sure they've got lots to explore and do🐰 Kathryne, alongside our nurse Becca, are working towards an award for Rabbit Friendly Practice from The Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund so watch this space as we hope to have it very soon!

Last week we had a visit from Coco, Goldie, Willow, Ruby, Maple, Teddy, Milo, Tia and Penny 🥰 What a lot of loveliness they were - well done mum Nala on getting them to this point - that's a lot of mouths to feed!

All 7 girls and 2 boys were good as gold while vet Laura did their examinations and first vaccinations - not one squeak . Laura and Vet nurse student Ally worked as team to make sure everyone was happy and cuddled (it's a tough job 🤣) Ally also weighed them all and checked their microchips worked.

Their best behaviour all disappeared when it came to taking a photo though so enjoy the blur of cuteness!

Emma is one of our lovely qualified nurses, she started as a student nurse in 2021 and we wanted to keep her when she qualified in 2023 so she became a permanent member of the team! All of our nurses have a day they operate each week with a variety of operations to assist with. Meet the very beautiful Poppy! She comes in every 4 weeks to have an injection to help with her Addisons disease. Addison's or hypoadrenocorticism is a disease where the adrenal glands are attacked by Poppy's immune system and this stops them working as well as they should or could. Poppy's injections make her feels better and support her body to keep hold of the water she produces. Poppy loves coming in to see us regularly mostly because of the biscuits and cuddles! 🎅 ELF DAY🤶 We have really missed not being able to do as much for charity as we normally would while COVID has been here, and so are excited to have an opportunity to raise money for Alzheimer's Society. There are a few of us in the practice that have been affected by friends and family having Alzheimer's and we know we are not alone in this. We are planning a cake bake, some fun elf activities and surprises (which we promised to film and post on social media for you all to see) and to unleash our inner elves as much as we can.
