Apologies to anyone who I have missed calls and messages, I am back online now after my phone was smashed pretty much in two (note to self- don't leave it in a pocket on a gate for unsuspecting husband to open and squish in said gate!) Managed to get my new phone all set up which was a task in itself!

It's been a busy time recently with ups and downs of horses along the way, but I have been delighted to enjoy spectating 2 days at a Leslie Desmond Clinic in the North East, having lessons with Legerete Instructor Mark Fuller and instruction with a clients horse from Clive Johnson. Really keen to glean their knowledge to further mine and yours!

Hope you are all enjoying your horses when its not pouring with rain! Sally

It's taken me since September to manage to put together some photos to pay tribute to this amazing pony 😭 She has been part of our family and part of so many people's riding lives for 32 of her 36 years. She taught myself, many young riders and most recently my daughters the ropes with a gentle cheekiness that she never lost, she was still pushing with her nose to be out even when her feet failed her. Many thanks to Kyle for looking after her hooves and Border Vets for helping to manage her Cushings and to Suzanne for being there for her and me when the decision came. I am very grateful my favourite pony was so well for so long and the memories will live on

After a busy week it has been nice to have a quiet day to take time to reflect on this week's events. I have always greatly admired the Queen and she brought so much to the world of horses, particularly bringing Monty Roberts to the UK and promoting gentle horse training

Starting point (pictures 1 and 2) and latest progress picture from Archie's best schooling session to date, the Pivo was not connecting so very little captured but he seems to be really taking in all we have been working on, relaxation, stretching and balance. He is starting to carry himself in a relaxed carriage and is understanding sideways aids.

Progression from a starting point of Maisy carrying herself in a hollow, stiff frame (first photo) to beginning to relax, extend her frame and track up in walk and trot. Her rhythm and balance are improving in all paces which is giving her rider a much better feel and the transitions are smoother with much lighter aids. It is great to see them both improving

I really enjoyed doing a short session with young Babylon for my friend. He was a very quick learner, as was his owner, to put in place some leading and give them some groundwork exercises to work on.
Keep up the good work!

I am really enjoying helping this lovely mare getting back into work. She has a tendency to nap towards home when out hacking so we have been practicing in the arena on her "buttons" all working properly and using exercises to ensure we show her that direction and speed is the rider's decision. We have already seen much less napping towards the arena door! Maintaining a consistent rein contact and timing of leg aids being crucial to catching the nap before it happens

Catching up with photos and videos!
Young Lispy is coming along really well, spending more time training with her owner, building up their partnership. Out on a walk out to give her life experience and practicing her leading, Lispy was not too sure about the bike passing at first but after a few passes she realised it was nothing to worry about!

This young horse is not very happy to have his back legs and feet handled, kicking out as you approach to attempt lift his feet. His owner has made great progress in his kicking at feeding times and whilst grooming however is rightly cautious to go near his back legs as although he is very quiet and friendly otherwise he has a fair kick! We started with the fake arm which he was happy with, then moved on to the stick with hook on the end to lift his feet. As he can kick the stick without hurting anyone we can keep the stick on until he accepts and relaxes, then reward by taking it away and a nice rub. He is learning that standing still gets rid of the stick or hand, not as has he at some point learnt kicking gets rid of people touching his legs! We progressed to picking up his feet a few times on each side with much less reaction. We will continue until he doesn't think about kicking then start with our own hand

Some really good exercises to help ear shy behaviour. I have dealt with quite a few ear shy horses and massage really does help

Plenty to be pleased with today, after a longline session to warm up Bibi had a gentle first ride after his break, running through standing still to be mounted, listening to the aids, standing still and only moving off when asked, walking over poles, little bit of leg yield, turn on the forehand and reinback. He was very responsive to the leg but resists the rein contact so that can be worked on.
Lipsy started her walk out with her owner leading, feeling a lot more confident handling her. We met some scary stuff in the wind and she is learning not to invade the handlers space! Very happy with her calming down much quicker than previously after meeting something that worries her!

So pleased with Aileen and Genevieve after a break from lessons they have both been practicing what they learnt in previous lessons and progressing in their riding and their horse's training during their day to day handling and whilst hacking
β˜ΊοΈπŸ‘
Pictured is Genevieve having a ride on gorgeous Ozzie who has come on leaps and bounds in his general behaviour and his balance and steering in the school.
Second picture is myself on Daisy, I spent a short time showing Daisy she can ride in a much more comfortable and balanced frame rather than her habit of travelling hollow and fast which makes for an uncomfortable ride for horse and rider!
I look forward to their next lesson as I am sure they will be working on their positions and horses way of going in the meantime 😊

I really love this, every moment we are with our horses they are learning from how we are with them, good or bad!
