Racehorse Rescue Centre

Racehorse Rescue Centre We create innovative programmes that other charities follow, using rescued horses to change lives. It is an Approved Rescue and Re-training Centre by the RoR.

The Racehorse Rescue Centre (RRC) is a registered charity No. 1150864 based in Carlisle, serving the whole UK. By rescuing ex racehorses we give them a secure safe environment and the opportunity to move onto new careers once they have finished racing. We are not just a Rescue Centre
We provide free programmes to disadvantaged groups throughout the UK to help them develop their skills in the comm

unity such as injured soldiers, probation services, disabled, employment services, colleges and therapy for people suffering from trauma or depression. We are 100% volunteer run so any help goes direct to the horses and not on salaries. The Racehorse Rescue Centre works with the community through its highly motivated volunteer team. Horses that come to the Centre are given time to go back to their roots and allowed to socialise with the other horses to build up development and confidence. We retrain ex racehorses to their best ability and find new caring homes that will secure their future. Other horses that work well with our programmes will stay at the Centre to help educate the community in the importance of how equine therapy can help disadvantaged groups. We have other older horses that are harder to re-home and these will stay with us if no homes can be found. The RRC do not sell horses on and keeps ownership for the rest of their lives. The Racehorse Rescue Centre relies on donations from the caring public, companies and its trustees. Any funding is spent directly on the horses and to help secure their future. The trustees have been rescuing ex racehorses for the past 25 years and started the charity in 2010 to help create awareness of the problem and to get the community more involved. We believe it has a bright future ahead thanks to the hard work the volunteers put in and with the support of the community throughout the world we hope to continue to grow.

For now, go on... gallop home.

Racehorse Rescue Centre was founded with a vision to create a welcoming space where people could learn, rehabilitate, make friends, and feel safe, with horses serving as a central feature. This charity organisation provides free facilities for learning, including an education room built above the stables, which is used by various local services such as schools, Social Services, Police, Fire Service, NHS, and more.

Racehorse Rescue Centre offers:

free on-site accommodation, attracting students from all seven veterinary universities in the UK for Extra Mural Studies (EMS), where they learn stable management and horse welfare
free residential courses which are attended by students from around the world
work placements for school students
specialised training to local fire services on horse rescue
specialised training to police forces on operational tactics
an unaccredited educational programme for volunteers and students, offering foundational knowledge in equine care and pathways to formal education

Your donations and legacies enable the charity to update their computers, repair classrooms and accommodations, update their digital platforms and invest in the infrastructure needed to operate more sustainably. Please give today. Thank you.

New Zealand to ban greyhound racing

New Zealand has announced plans to ban greyhound racing, citing an "unacceptably high" rate of injuries.

The government plans to wind down the industry over the next 20 months, to allow time for the rehoming of racing dogs and for people in the industry to transition to other jobs.

Full story below.

The industry has long faced criticism, with some breeders accused of mistreating or doping the animals.

Please help Erin with her challenge

The Challenge:

I am rowing the length of the Cumbrian River Eden on an Indoor Rower. The River Eden is approximately up to 90 miles / 145 km in length, which starts above Mallerstang Valley and flows northwest to Carlisle and merges at the Solway Firth.

So that’s 145,000 metres to row in the month of December – and a lot of life spent on the indoor rower at the gym! This will hugely challenge me as I have not done any cardio exercise in a long time.
Please share and click on the justgiving link to help me reach my goal.
Thank you
Erin

The same child is in both photos. The only difference is how they're dressed.

As we approach shorter daylight hours, whether you walk, cycle, horseride or drive, make sure you can be seen.

So dust off those hi-vis vests, light up dog collars, cycle lights and perform light checks on your vehicle.

The brighter the better!!!

Peak ashes have arrived in New Zealand where he was born. Bry, his former jockey is taking care of him.

He had us all worried as he disappeared in the postal service and ended up travelling to New Zealand, back to United Kingdom and back to New Zealand before arriving at Brys home a month later.

Thank you to all who supported him through the years he was with us. He is sadly missed but will never be forgotten.
