Safe use of Parasiticides 👇💊

Parasiticides treatments for pets are important, but so too is safe use and disposal of these medications.

🔹 Only treating pets when necessary: based on lifestyle, infestation risk, and the prevalence of specific parasites in the local area, rather than applying this type
of medication routinely.
🔹 Safe application and disposal: It is important to apply spot on treatments safely, doing so indoors and avoiding bathing or letting pets swim afterwards to
help prevent contaminating waterways.
🔹 Disposal of packaging (vials, applicators) securely - do not to wash or flush packaging down drains.

As part of the Animal Medicines Amnesty, we're encouraging clients to return any unused or out of date medicines to us.

Simply bring them to one of our practices ✅

Your cat might still be eager to explore outdoors as the weather turns colder, so it’s important to make sure they stay safe on their winter adventures 🐈❄️

Here are some tips to keep them safe 👇

🔹Ensure they always have a warm place to go
🔹Consider a reflective or light-up collar to help with visibility
🔹Check cat flaps are clear at all times
🔹If it's really cold, keep them inside to prevent hypothermia
🔹Check their paws and wipe off any grit, as this can cause irritation
🔹Always provide clean, fresh water and check it hasn't frozen if outside

If you have any concerns or would like further advice, please call us on 01228 710208 📞

Did you know the environment is at risk if pet medicines aren’t disposed of properly? 🌍⚠️

Never dispose of unused pet medicines in your household waste as this can pollute the environment.

Always return unused or out of date medicines to your vet for safe disposal.

We're taking part in the Animal Medicines Amnesty and are encouraging clients to return any unused or out of date medicines to us.

Simply bring them to one of our practices ✅

We will be taking part in the Dream Placement online development event tomorrow, ahead of the selection process.

We know the students will have questions for our teams, and we can’t wait to meet them!

It’s a great opportunity for us to engage with young people who are eager to develop leadership skills and gain valuable experience 👏

At the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month - we will remember them.

We will be marking Armistice Day by joining the national two-minute silence at 11am, taking time to honour all who served and sacrificed - including the animals who stood alongside them.

How much exercise should a puppy get? 🐶

It’s one of the most common questions we’re asked - and for good reason!

Getting your puppy out and about early is so important. During their socialisation window (3–12 weeks old), puppies are most receptive to new sights, sounds, smells, people, and other animals.

Of course, they’re not fully vaccinated for much of this time, so it’s important to be cautious - let them meet vaccinated dogs and new people in safe environments, but avoid high-risk public areas until they’ve had their jabs.

🚫 Over-exercising growing puppies can affect their bone and joint development, leading to long-term issues like arthritis or hip dysplasia.

Instead:
✅ Provide short bursts of mental and physical stimulation throughout the day
✅ Let them explore and sniff - don’t expect to go far or fast
✅ Slowly build up their walks as they grow
✅ Avoid stairs and high-impact activities (like jumping) until they’re fully grown
✅ Walk them for five minutes per month of age

And don’t forget diet - a complete, balanced puppy food supports healthy bone and joint development 🦴

Be patient - they’ll be out exploring in no time just like Graham and Clova 🏔️🐾

November is Pet Diabetes Month 💙

There are two main types of diabetes that we see in pets:
🔹 Type 1 which is more common in dogs, occurs when the body produces insufficient insulin
🔹 Type 2 which is more commonly seen in cats is when enough insulin is produced but the cells don't respond

It is important to bear in mind once a pet is diagnosed with diabetes, they usually require lifelong treatment and lifestyle adaptations to manage it.

If you are concerned your pet may be showing the signs above, please get in touch.

What is antimicrobial resistance (AMR)? 💊

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an increasing problem worldwide, and it affects human, animal and planetary health.

It happens when bacteria become resistant to the medicines we use (antibiotics) to treat infections. AMR means antibiotics don’t work as well as they should and sometimes, they won’t work at all.

That’s why it’s important that antibiotics are always used as prescribed and any unused antibiotics are disposed of safely.

We're proud to be taking part in the countrywide Animal Medicines Amnesty and are encouraging clients to return any unused or out of date antibiotics or any unused medication to us for safe disposal.

Simply bring them to one of our practices ✅ and we'll sort the rest.
