Skyler modeling one of the many dog bandanas just arrived in, for all the pups to wear on walks...soo cute ๐Ÿถ

Not only will the pups look cute, but the bandanas are mulit functional ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿพ

They will help keep the pups cool by freezing them on those warmer days, hoping we get them ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ™ˆ ๐Ÿคž

We will also be able to use a natural & safe flea/tick reppellent of Lavander oil & almond oil. A drop to the outside of the bandanas, is enough to repell ๐Ÿ˜

Please do see below advise from PDSA also, as the bandanas just provide an extra layer of protection. We will be following the below advise also ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ•

Shake itโ€ฆshake it offโ€ฆ

A recent study by two researchers in France looked at sniffing, pulse rate, and leash length on walks. Sixty-one dogs were taken on three separate walks, five minutes each walk, once with a 1.5m leash, once with a 5m leash, and once without a leash at all (walk order was randomized for each dog). Off-leash dogs sniffed the most, more than 3x as long as the dogs on short leashes. Dogs on long leashes spent nearly as much time as unleashed dogs sniffing, almost 3x as long as dogs on short leashes.

This study also found that sniffing resulted in lowered pulse rates, and the more intensely they sniffed, the more their pulse rates lowered. Pulse rate was also lowered when dogs โ€œshook offโ€ during walks on all leash lengths. The โ€œshake offโ€ behavior was often seen when the dogโ€™s pulse rate was particularly high.

Some really good advice here. The prolonged wet period with warmth has made ticks thrive this year.

This could be the most important thing that you see me post! Its an epidemic this year, and these things are as lethal as a venomous snake in the wrong senerio! Please not only read it, but share it! Make sure we get the word out about these tics and the disease they carry!

It's summer! Time for camping, hiking and getting outside to play. Don't let those pesky annoying ticks stop you. Here's how with a simple homemade solution!

Repellent for your pets:

For pets, add 1 cup of water to a spray bottle, followed by 2 cups of distilled white vinegar. Ticks hate the smell and taste of vinegar, and will be easily be repelled by this ingredient alone. Then, add two spoonfuls of vegetable or almond oil, which both contain sulfur (another natural tick repellent).

To make a repellent that will also deter fleas, mix in a few spoonfuls of lemon juice, citrus oil, or peppermint oil, any of which will repel ticks and fleas while also creating a nicely scented repellent. Spray onto the pet's dry coat, staying away from sensitive areas including eyes, nose, mouth, and ge****ls. When outdoors for an extended period, spray this solution on two to three times per day.

For you and your family:

In a spray bottle, mix 2 cups of distilled white vinegar and 1 cup of water. To make a scented solution so you do not smell like bitter vinegar all day, add 20 drops of your favorite essential oil.

Eucalyptus oil is a calm, soothing scent that also works as a tick repellent, while peppermint and citrus oils give off a strong crisp scent that also repel ticks.

After mixing the solution, spray onto clothing, skin, and hair before going outdoors. Reapply every four hours to keep ticks at bay, and examine your skin and hair when back inside to make sure no ticks are on the body.

If you have ever shared anything, please click share on this! WE must get the word spread about the dangers of Ticks and how to avoid them!

My mornings for the next 4-6 weeks ๐Ÿ˜ช

I wanted to say a massive thank you to all my customers who had bookings with me. Everyone has been so understanding and I appreciate all the well wishes. I can't wait to get back to work already!

I broke my big toe for anyone who didn't know ๐Ÿ™ƒ

โš ๏ธ Itโ€™s lambing and calving season - keep your distance.

Many of us enjoy exploring the countryside, especially with our four-legged friends, but itโ€™s important to give farm animals their space in March and April as they give birth ๐Ÿ‘.

Getting too close to cows and sheep can cause them to panic, resulting in injuries or even miscarriages for pregnant mothers ๐Ÿ„.

If you are exploring the great outdoors, make sure you:

โœ… Keep dogs on a lead.
โœ… Give other animals plenty of space.
โœ… Be mindful of signage and respect farmersโ€™ land.

Remember - livestock worrying is a crime. Attacks are the dog owner's responsibility and carry fines of up to ยฃ40k or 12 months in prison.

If you spot any livestock worrying then please report this to Police Scotland ๐Ÿ“ฒ.

Doesn't matter which category our pooches fall into. It's all about setting them up for success ๐Ÿ™Œ

We should not expect every dog to love every other member of their species. Even the most friendly, social dog will eventually find some dogs they donโ€™t like, just as even the most outgoing person you know doesnโ€™t like some other humans.

Itโ€™s an unrealistic expectation to think every dog โ€œwants to say hiโ€ or will be friends with every dog they meet. And if we think this, weโ€™re just setting our dog and ourselves up to fail.

Let's shift our thinking and think about dog sociability as a spectrum and different dogs will fall in different spots. Genetics, age, socialization and many other factors all play a part in this. Read more in this week's post.

Let them sniff! I will admit, I'm not a fan of militaristic, forced marching, heeling walks for dogs. Yes, sometimes there's a time and a place for loose leash walking or walking close to you on a crowded city sidewalk. But in general, your dog's walk is for them to enjoy and in order to enjoy it fully, you dog has to have freedom of movement to be able to sniff and explore, without being tugged on to "let's go."

Sniffing makes your dog feel good. The part of the brain that is activated by sniffing is also the part of the brain that releases dopamine, a neurotransmitter important in regulating anxiety. Every time you allow your dog sniff, you are allowing him the opportunity to feel good, reduce stress and self-soothe. (This is covered in detail in Affective Neuroscience: The Foundations of Human and Animal Emotions by Jaak Panskeep.) We all love tucking into our Christmas roast dinner โ€“ so much so that it can be tempting to share it with our beloved pets. However, it's important to remember that some of our favourite festive treats are highly toxic or hazardous to our furry friends and need to be avoided at all costs ๐Ÿšซ๐ŸŽ„

It's best to stick to your pet's main diet as much as possible, as a sudden change can lead to a tummy ache, but if your pet is a healthy weight and you really can't resist, there may be parts of your Christmas dinner that are safe to feed in small amounts. Just remember that a small portion for us is a lot for your pet! Read our vets' advice: http://pdsa.me/zhHn
