Roo hops into Open Stakes!
Byrbwll Quinlan (Roo) won the Bristol and West Novice Cocker held at the Kemble Estate. The trial was held in game cover and heavy bramble in which Roo excelled and he also came away with the Guns Choice award which is always a prize to treasure. The dogs had to work hard to find game and all credit to the Guns Simon Blackman and Charlie as they made sure flushed birds were turned into retrieves for the dogs and handlers.

Roo has been a consistent trialling dog with a number of awards to his name and to our knowledge this makes him the only roan field trial winner in the country. He is also another home bred Byrbwll cocker and makes him the fifth Open Stake dog in the kennels.

We would like to thank Ade Stride for all her hard work in putting on the trial and the two Judges Alex Badger and Richard Bunyan. It was extra special to have the award presented by Cocker Championship winner Richard Priest.

Tollieford Finn just won the Spaniel Novice Cocker held at Stapleford, Leicestershire, he is just 20 months old and is sired by FTCH Byrbwll Peaky Blinder. There is only one thing better than running and winning with your own home bred dogs and that is seeing a dog that has been sired by a Byrbwll Cocker. Coincidently his grandmother (Leeglen Shea of Byrbwll) won the same stake back in 2019, and he is the third Shelby pup to have won. Congratulations to Jackie Elliott on her success.

OFTW Byrbwll Billy The Kid Shoots into the 2025 Cocker Championship.
Billy ran in his first open cocker stake at Upton Pyne on Saturday 9th November and won on ice thereby qualifying him for the 2025 Cocker Championship. This was Billy’s third trial having run two novice trials before moving up to open. Billy is a home bred 4th generation Byrbwll Cocker and at only two and a half years old we are very excited about his future.

We would like to thank everyone involved in organising this trial particularly Alice Wise who worked extremely hard to make this trial happen on behalf of the Duchy Gundog Club. Thanks also to the Judges Jeremy Davies & Alice Wise and to Paul Bowyer for ensuring there was a steady flow of game for the competitors and their dogs.

Byrbwll Billy The Kid Wins 2nd Time Out.
Billy ran at the Leicester Gundog Society Novice cocker trial and was awarded first place after a run off in bramble woodland. This was Billy’s second time out coming third last week at the Dorset Working Spaniel Club’s novice trial held at Blannicombe. Billy is a 4th generation bred Byrbwll cocker, we have won with his great grandmother Leeglen Shea of Byrbwll, his grandfather FTCh Byrbwll Peaky Blinder, his father FTW Byrbwll Triggers Broom.

It was a privilege to run on such a beautiful Estate and we would like to pass on our thanks to the Noseley & Rolleston Estate landowners Mr & Mrs Wilkinson, the Judges, FT Secretary Alison Cook, the head gamekeeper Aaran Hocking and all the helpers and Guns that made this such a good trial.

Roo has been a straightforward and easy to train little cocker, he is biddable and easy going but with plenty of controllable drive and he has proved to be a natural retriever. Shelby is a home bred Byrbwll cocker out of our own field trial winning bitch to FTch Rowston Spikey. Shelby is showing great promise, winning both novice and open field trials in his first year of competition.
Shelby is a fast, stylish cocker with a natural hunting pattern and he is fearless in cover, he is a keen retriever from both land and water. He is proven stud and his offspring can be seen at our kennels. Of the three trials completed this season Arty finished third, second and we were fortunate to win the Westward novice Any Variety to finish off our season.
