๐ด Horses Vital Signs - How to check temperature, pulse & respiration
Keeping an eye on your horseโs vital signs is important for catching health issues early. Hereโs how to check temperature, pulse, and respiration (TPR)โand why they matter.
๐ก Temperature (Normal: 37.5-38.5ยฐC)
โข Use a digital thermometer (lubricated) in the re**um for about a minute.
โข High temp? Possible infection or heat stress.
โค๏ธ Pulse (Heart Rate) (Normal: 20-40 beats per min)
โข Find it under the jaw, behind the eye, or inside the front leg with your fingers (not your thumb). Count for 15 sec & multiply by 4.
โข Elevated pulse? Could mean pain, stress, or illness.
๐จ Respiration (Breathing Rate) (Normal: 8-12 breaths per min)
โข Watch the nostrils or flank movement. Count breaths for 30 sec & double it.
โข Rapid breathing? May indicate pain, fever, or respiratory issues.
๐ฉบ Checking TPR regularly helps you to spot problems before they get serious and provides really useful information when calling the vet for advice.
