What a difference a day makes! Some remnants of yesterdays snow, but blue skies and sunshine today, which all the dogs (and I) enjoyed very much!

Lots of snow today on our walks in Burton in Kendal, Holme, Beetham, Kirkby Lonsdale, Cowan Bridge, Arkholme and Hornby. All the dogs had a great time and it added a whole new level of excitement to our adventures!

Just completed my first course of 2024, to add to those I have done in previous years. It will help me to better understand any fearfulness shown by the dogs that I walk, and know how to help them through it and build their confidence.

From the end of February I will have a space become available for a new dog to join my group walks. As you can see from the photos, we have a great time on our Adventure Walks, in some wonderful locations in and around the Lune Valley, and all the dogs I walk are happy, sociable and welcoming of any new arrivals. Group sizes are kept small so that all dogs receive a high level of attention and supervision. Basic training, agility, games and enrichment work are included on every walk. We always do a lot of agility work on our adventure walks and make the most of the natural obstacles that we encounter along the way. Agility work improves canine co-ordination, flexibility and confidence, is both mentally and physically challenging and is great for burning off excess energy on a walk. So whether it be balancing on fallen trees or trig points, rock scrambling, jumping over logs in the woods or through narrow gaps in stone walls or negotiating stepping stones over fords and brooks, the dogs love to show me their feats of daring and out comes my mobile phone to capture the moment!

Building up dogs' confidence in the water - and it's not just the dogs having fun!!

A very big well done to all the puppies and young dogs under 12 months of age that I walk at the moment. They are all doing fantastically well! We are practising loose lead walking, recall. playing enrichment games and doing some very simple, low level agility work. They are learning how to behave appropriately - not jumping up, not barking at other dogs, how to respect another dogs personal space and how to share toys. They are developing their Impulse Control, and learning to respond to appropriate verbal cues - Wait, Stay and Leave, to name but a few. Great results are being achieved through Encouragement, Enrichment, Verbal Praise, Affection, Motivation and Learning Through Play. They are having so much fun they don't even realise they are being trained!

Our Story

A deep-rooted passion for dogs, a love of the outdoors, whatever the weather, and an appreciation of the beautiful surroundings in which we are lucky enough to live on the North Lancashire and South Cumbria border. And so began Treks Trails and Adventures! Over the last three years we have walked all sorts of breeds, on a variety of types of walks, have learned a lot along the way and, most importantly, loved every minute of it.

Our speciality now, however, is providing adventures for high energy dogs, for whom an “ordinary walk” just won’t do. These kind of dogs, if they are to thrive, need far more than just a stretch of their legs, on the same unimaginative route, day in, day out. With this in mind, we make the most of cross-country terrains and pack each walk full of scent and retrieval games, agility work which makes the most of the natural features that this wonderful area has to offer (woods, rocky outcrops, rivers, beaches and grassy meadows to name but a few) and basic training so that each dog is both mentally and physically challenged and comes home tired and happy. Which is exactly, we have found, what our customers want their dogs to be.

We have helped dogs overcome their fear of water, won the trust of dogs that are instinctively wary of new people and situations, and provided one-to-one support for dogs that, due to bad experiences in the past, have lost their trust in other dogs. We have provided owners with photos on every walk (which we have been told brighten up a mundane office day) and monthly photo collages highlighting their dogs’ adventures, which many of our customers have also told us hang pride of place upon their childrens’ bedroom wall. We have sent videos capturing their dogs’ first ever swim or first experience of snow, and produced regular newsletters, so that owners can feel part of an exclusive club, sharing stories, training and first aid tips and general health advice.

We also now offer an Exclusive Sleep Over Club for dogs that we walk on a regular basis only, who can accompany us on our treks and trails throughout the day. If you would like your dog to join our Canine Adventure Company, then do please get in touch!
