🔄 LYMPHATIC SYSTEM

An important part of our horses body that often gets forgotten about.

🏇🏻During exercise, waste biptoducts are created and production of lactic acid. For many years, researchers believed that it was the excess LACTIC ACID sitting on the muscles that caused DOMS but infact, research has shown that the microscopic tears in soft tissues that occur during exercise (don’t worry they’re not bad!) will cause a chain reaction of inflammation to aid recovery. This inflammatory response is what causes muscle stiffness & fatigue.

🤔 So, we compete at a show on Sunday. Its too wet to let them out on Monday so they stay in and don’t get exercised because they they have ‘a day off’. That excess waste products is sitting on the muscles not getting pushed back out because there is minimal movement 😥 THIS is why it is SO IMPORTANT to allow as much movement as possible even if they are not being ridden

🔄 Turnout if possible
🔄 Handwalk
🔄 Walker
🔄 Lunge
🔄 Water Treadmill

➡️ There is an alternative option to manually drain thess pesky toxins…PHYSICAL THERAPY 🙌🏻🙌🏻

This is also applicable in sone rehab cases. Controlled movement can be beneficial for the control of inflammation. Always consult with your vet first if dealing with an injury 👨🏻‍⚕️

Gibson received a post season glow up today. Hard to believe this guy is 20 and has has a few easy years.

Due to the unsettled weather we have been receiving you may find horses hesistating to cast their winter coats.

Taking into consideration we are about 8 weeks out to Balmoral, the decision was made not to bald gibson but remove the heavy winter coat and hopefully encourage a even summer coat through. We clipped with Liveryman A5 4.8mm (covercote) blades to leave a natural finish. I think the results speak for themselves.

Best wishes and happy competing Jane Katie Agnew ❤️

Appreciation Post

Messages and pictures like these are the reason I enjoy teaching so much.

I have been helping Lucy for quite sometime now seeing her progress from a very nervous timid rider on her 1st pony to winning the PC arena eventing today on her new mount.

As with any relatively new partnership she has been facing a few teething issues, the fact that her new pony is polar oppsite to her old has been difficult, but she has been committed to improving both her riding and her ponies way of going.

Over the last couple of weeks we took a step back, focused on rhythm and control and introduced lots of pole work and jumping from trot, building it slowly into more complicated grids with bounces and V poles. The results speak for themselves we now have a more balanced pony, who isn’t rushing as much in front of the fence and is now jumping equally through her shoulders.

Keep up the great work Lucy 💕

⭐️⭐️ Gentle Reminder ⭐️⭐️

Dirty Coats = Dirty Clips, Clean Coats = Clean Clips

I can not emphasise how important it is that horses coats and skin are presented to clip clean and dry. This is not only for the operation of my machines but for the comfort of your horse. Dirty greasy sandy coats cause blades to tug and pull on hairs, and in turn cause them to heat up. Neither of which give your animal a pleasant experience.

I have included a few of my favourite shampoos that help break up grease and grime in a coat without aggravating the skin underneath, ditch your sponge and invest in an old fashioned curry comb to really get into the coat. You should be sweating by the end of bathing even on a cold day. Pay particular attention to “tough” spots over the rump and behind the saddle and ensure that all shampoo residue is well washed out.

If in extreme cases you cannot bath please spend at least 30 mins - 1 hour grooming including a real good curry comb to encourage the dust and dirt to the surface which then can be flicked off. A hot towel with a capful of detol can be beneficial after this provided your horses coat isn’t mammoth like. Wolly coats + hot towel = things of nightmares.

If you have any question’s please message me and il be happy to help.

I had a conversation with Lauren last weekend about “blending” she wanted to keep a little protection on the legs for jumping but didn’t want the bold clip lines, and here we are :-

After a lot of thought and consideration, I have had to make the uneasy decision to increase my prices for this season.

I have not had a price increase since before 2019, but with the increasing costs of diesel, blades, maintenance, insurance and general living I unfortunately have had to revise my prices accordingly.

Please see below new prices effective from 1st November 2023.

I will also be starting to request that all payments are made on completion of clipping. I accept Cash, PayPal, BACS.

Many thanks for your understanding and your custom, Shannon x

On Sat we packed up the lorry and headed off to the beautiful Castle Irvine Necarne for Enniskillen Horse and Pony Show. In true Northern Ireland style we had 3 seasons of weather in one day, however the torrential downpours did not dampen our spirts.

Unfortunately a green moment in the championship seen neither of the boys feature, nothing like horses to bring you back to earth with a bang 😂. We will treat it as a learning experience and hopefully will get another championship at another show another day.

Well done to everyone that took part, and to the committee and organisers of the show. First class prizes and location.

Special thanks as always to my super talented friend Kat McQuillan KTM Photography who consistently travels to capture the best moments and memories (photo credits to her), it honestly is very much appreciated, not only are you camera women but your pretty good at holding fetching and carrying too 💕, and to Megan for tolerating my consistent lateness, bad driving and choice of music and still agreeing to ride Vazzy 😂🤷‍♀️.
