Today was Leonberger day! These 2 are groomed at my house. Giant breeds need lots of breaks to rest and stretch out……Just like me 😆. The pictures aren’t great but after 7 hours relentless brushing, I’m questioning my own sanity 😮‍💨🤪

Meet Peaches 🥰
An 18mth Malinois/GSD. Unfortunately, Peaches has had negative experiences with previous groomers, on both occasions she was returned early to the owner due to her dryer fear. So we start a fresh, slowing down the groom and observing triggers. She made good choices today, choosing the peanut butter stuffed chicken instead of attacking the dryer. It’s also important to consider the breed; Peaches has a high prey drive so placing the dryer in a static position helps her to cope and not be overwhelmed. She wasn’t completely dry but the goal today was to gain trust and give her a new positive grooming experience. I’m very proud of her 😮‍💨☺️

Updated figures for XL Bully exemptions in England and Wales.

These figures are ONLY up to 8th January so will have increased since then, the government clearly underestimated the number of dogs this ban would encompass, despite being given more accurate estimates Theresa Coffey maintained that around 10,000 dogs would need exemption, the figure is already over double that and likely to significantly increase by January 31st.
In addition, the government has received almost £2m in exemption applications.

Sadly this also shows that a minimum of 61 dogs have been euthanised under the £200 compensation scheme 💔 Many of these dogs will simply fall within the tape measure guidelines.

My insurance will cover me for working with banned breeds in line with regulations. I am also very happy to do so 🥰 We must advocate for these innocent dogs and educate owners on responsible ownership.

Working on Boxing Day isn’t everyone’s idea of fun but a loyal customer needed a late favour and I was ready to assist 😮‍💨 I certainly had fun and This had to be done at my house as a large breed he needs lots of breaks as do I! Arthos took over 5 hours and was super chill as usual 😊 See comments for afters….

What a fabulous end to wet and miserable week. Tilly; 7 months old, had her first groom with me. Let’s just say she was ready 🤣 Tilly had a double bath and was an absolute star. Her mum is a dog walker so she has lots of daily outdoor fun. Her skin and coat needed a good deep clean. Slow and steady introduction for her first groom and she really enjoyed herself - as did I 🥰🥰

Ask any groomer what they dread and you’re likely to hear a Pug nail trim. 🥴
They hate it, and are super dramatic with unnecessary screaming- unless trained from a pup. Poor Milo had been refused by vets, citing it would only be done under medical sedation. Now don’t get me wrong, vets are a great resource for nail trims but they simply do not have time for the slow approach and desensitisation required. They usually have a waiting room of clients and the job needs to be done. Milo was in need of a dew claw trim. He had a short bath for relaxation and I managed to get it trimmed. This took over an hour, but there was minimal screaming and he was pretty relaxed by the end 🥰 I can never guarantee nail trims, but I do all I can to make it as stress free as possible 🐾👍🏻

Beautiful Spanish Mastiff 🥰 This girl is a rescue from Spain and was nervous about my plug cable, my drink bottle, my traffic cones. I thought it was going to be tough. Turns out she really got into it 🤔 She enjoyed the cooling bath and de-shed as well as a good blow out of coat. Well done beautiful 😍

Just a reminder regarding grass seeds. These pesky things work their way in between toes and cause major problems! They bury into skin and only travel one way and can seriously hurt your dog and wallet! Check paws, armpits after a walk! Luckily managed to pull quite a few during this groom 👍🏻

It was love at first sight 🥰 Clyde had his first groom with me. He has a lot going on health wise so needed a pamper and head massage. 😊 He also had a successful nail trim which was a surprise as it was previously not his favourite thing at the vets. Brave boy 👏🐾

I almost ran over a dog yesterday 😩 2 loose dogs on a blind bend in West Leake. My trailer doesn’t cope well with emergency braking. 🥴 I was trying to keep them out the road, slow traffic, knock on doors etc. A helpful group of people stopped and we caught one and the other ran off. After calling the number on the tag the owner didn’t seem too concerned stating ‘they would find their way home’ 😳Not before traumatising those involved, and potentially causing a fatality of dogs or humans.
