UPDATE πŸ“’

Hi everyone 😊

As some of you may know, I have recently moved house - I am however still able to provide training for dogs who attend Doggie Day Care Dalry, as I still work there on set days.

I now solely offer a set training and daycare combined package in Dalry, which needs to tie in with days I am working at the day care, due to my new commute.

If you're interested in training for your dog and they already attend day care or you're planning to enrol them in day care, then please get in touch and I will do my best to accommodate you!

Thanks so much for all your continued support and entrusting me with your precious dogs ❀️

Final session of the block for this happy chappy today!

Well done Bernie & humans for all your hard work - it has certainly paid off! πŸ‘

What a difference from when we first started. Still a big goofball (but who would ever want to change that! 🀣) yet so much more focused and engaged and learning to control his impulses. Much less jumping up - if any! And much nicer walking on the lead!

Success! 🍾

Things can only get better with your wonderful owners continuing your training as well as they have been 😁

Training takes a lot of time, consistency and effort. It's not always easy and it doesn't always go to plan. Training in real life is messy, it can be frustrating and even downright tedious at times, as there's so much repetition involved. It's not like what you might see on the TV shows... Don't let a guy in a tweed waistcoat and cravat make you feel inadequate just because he makes it look quick and easy!

We all make mistakes and encounter setbacks, but as long as we learn from them and pick ourselves up and carry on, that's okay! Don't suffer in silence and struggle alone, reach out and we'll figure it out together.

Even dog trainers struggle to get it right sometimes. Every single dog is an individual, so there's no "one size fits all" and we constantly have to try new things, consult other trainers for advice and adjust our training plans accordingly.

I'm definitely repeating myself here, but if you just take a few minutes every day to train your dog - you WILL see results. It may take time, but you'll have built a stronger, more trusting relationship with your dog along the way, which is worth the wait, and hopefully you'll enjoy the process (or at least some of it)!

Here's Bernie and I working on his recall, and as you can see we moved from a smaller space with the long line on, to a larger open space off lead. We have been working up to this over our last few sessions. I know it's a bit ironic given the song how sped up the clips are, but I had to speed them up as they were so long - which sort of proves my point really. Training takes TIME!

Slow down, you're doing fine.

Meet Bernie the Bernedoodle! πŸ‘‹

Bernie's mum and dad reached out to me looking for some help with his impulse control, loose lead walking and recall.

Today was our first 121 session together and we concentrated our efforts on building focus and engagement - two very crucial skills we need to master to build a good foundation for training!

I'll get some more pictures and videos up of our first session soon! 😊

Very pleased to have received some great feedback for my Level 5 Canine Behaviour Professional Accredited Diploma from Canine Principles!

A lot of time, effort and research has went into achieving this qualification over the last year or so and I'm glad it has all paid off!

Already started working on my next course... it's addictive πŸ€“πŸΎ

Training in a new environment today with Mabel πŸ₯°

Dogs aren't great at generalising - you may have noticed this when you are out with a friend and want to show them how clever your puppy is, you ask them to do something super easy like "sit" or "paw" and they look at you like you've grown two heads! "They were doing it perfectly well at home" you think to yourself, and they were - and they would again - because they've learned that behaviour in a specific context (in the living room, during the evening, with the lamp on and the curtains drawn, and the TV on low in the background). But, as soon as you ask it of them in a completely different situation, they may struggle. That's why I always say it's so important that you practise ALL behaviours in as many different environments as you can. Start with a familiar, low-distraction area and gradually work your way up. You have to show your dog that you are asking the same of them no matter where you are or what's going on, and if they struggle with that initially, make it easy for them! Take it back a step, you might need to lure them into the behaviour or shape it (train in stages), but they will soon get up to speed and realise "ah, I know this one!"

Today I challenged Mabel by taking her to the paddock - which is in between the off lead area and the other exercise area we use for day care dogs. Both were occupied with dogs, and I practised her recall with her as well as some other cues like "look at me" and "touch" and, despite the added distractions, she coped really well!

Well done Mabel! πŸ‘

Say hello to the absolutely gorgeous Cruin! 😍
We had our first session today, where we sussed out what his strengths are, areas we need to focus on, what motivates him (cheese πŸ§€ and toys! πŸ₯Ž), and of course there were lots of butt rubs! We will be working hard on his loose lead walking and his recall over the next few weeks so stay tuned to keep up with his progress πŸ’•

I am so excited to be working with him πŸ₯°

Well done to the gorgeous Dougal who completed his 121 training program with me today! πŸ₯³

Dougal and I have worked hard over the past month or so on his impulse control - covering things like stay/wait, "leave it", drop, teaching alternatives to jumping up and generally working on his manners! He's an excitable young lab so it has certainly been a challenge at times but he's made some excellent progress and, as his lovely humans continue his training at home, I can't wait to see him flourish even more πŸ₯°

Lots of photos because I just couldn't stop taking pictures of that face 😍

Behold the Power of Squeezy Cheese! πŸ™ŒπŸ§€

β€’ A high value treat - tasty and smelly!
β€’ Affordable, easily accessible and useable even one-handed!
β€’ Great for working on recall training
β€’ Perfect for teaching loose lead walking as you can let them lick it as they walk alongside you which creates a positive association with being by your side
β€’ The act of licking promotes calmness and a sense of wellbeing within our dogs as it releases feel-good hormones
β€’ You only need to use a tiny amount at a time to achieve the desired result
β€’ It lasts longer than most other treats
β€’ You can even use the tube to dab a small amount onto trees etc. and ask your dog to "find it", making it into a fun brain game

Try it yourself! Let's see those cheesy faces! (From the dogs 🀣)

Need some help training your dog?

In addition to PALS, we now offer a new 121 training package!

This consists of:

β€’ An initial 1 hour consultation with you and your dog, held at our off lead safe play area, to discuss your training goals.

β€’ 4 x 1 hour training sessions, myself and your dog, to be arranged to suit you. On these days, your dog will attend day care as normal and training sessions will take place during their day here. (Fees for day care on these days will be included in the total price of the program)

β€’ Final 1 hour lesson with you and your dog where we can discuss any questions you may have and run through some of the training exercises.

You'll also be provided with detailed step-by-step training guides, handouts and support via email.

*Please note: this is available to anyone who has NOT previously completed the PALS program. If you are interested in further training please get in touch as I can offer you "top up" training sessions!
