Maeve is adopted ♥️

One beautiful pei off to her forever home!
Arriving with the most terrible case of Entropian we have ever seen. The vet was worried she was going to loose one of her eyes, as it had been left untreated for so long and her eye was so damaged 😞

On top of this she was super skinny and in poor condition

The amazing vets at Madra Veterinary Clinic operated quickly and her eye was saved! Such an amazing practice who work tirelessly and with the upmost compassion

And here she is! On to her happily ever after, to be treasured forever.

Our brave Maeve girly xx

Cruciate ligament damage is the leading cause of hindlimb lameness in dogs 🐶
Here is a little roundup of the lovely Roo, who underwent diagnostics and treatment with us for a ruptured cruciate ligament 🏥 🚑
Photo 1:
Shows some arrows pointing to an effusion (swelling) in his knee joint.
We have also measured the angle of his tibial plateau ( top of his shin ). This angle needs to be reduced in order for his knee to function well again and for him to be pain free.
Photo 2:
There are several ways to address and repair a cruciate ligament rupture. Roo underwent a cranial closing wedge osteotomy. A wedge was cut from his shin bone and the tibial plateau was reduced to a flatter, more favourable angle. This was his immediate post op X-ray 🩻
Photo 3:
This is the other view of leg, immediately post op. All of his screws and implant are aligned and set to do their job.
Photos 4&5:
Roo’s 6 week post op X-rays show nice bony healing of the cut that was made. The green arrows are pointing to the healing that is underway 🦿❤️‍🩹
The final photo is the superstar himself adhering to his strict post op rest instructions 😍🥰

We are delighted to say that Roo has made an excellent recovery and now walks pain free. Thank you to his owner for giving us permission to post his story ❤️

‼️It is World Spay Month ‼️

The official International Spay day is the 27th February.

We wanted to share some information about this procedure and the potential benefits associated with it.

⚕️A spay is a colloquial term for neutering a female dog or cat. This is typically performed by either ovariectomy (removing the ovaries alone) or more commonly in the UK ovariohysterectomy (removing the ovaries and womb). ⚕️

Both methods result in your dog/cat no longer coming into season and being unable to have puppies or Kittens.🐶🐱

Spaying your dog/cat can reduce the chance of her developing mammary gland tumours (breast cancer), the most common type of malignant tumour in female dogs/cats. 📉

The timing of when to neuter your female dog has various factors to consider and our vets can examine your pet and help to guide your decision making.⏳

Spaying your dog also eliminates the risk of your pet developing an infection of the womb (pyometra), a life-threatening condition that often requires emergency surgery when the patient is very ill. Pyometra is a very common condition and studies have shown that one in four unspayed female dogs will develop pyometra by the age of ten years old.🐶

❌Spaying eliminates your pet’s chances of developing ovarian cancer.❌

Cats can have up to 5 litters per year, letting them out and about entire commonly leads to accidental litters.🐱

Once a female dog has had a season, she will go on to produce pregnancy hormones, whether she has been mated or not. This can result in her showing signs of false pregnancy (“pseudo-pregnancy”) about 8-9 weeks after her season which can include enlargement of her mammary glands, milk production and behaviour changes with nesting and sometimes aggression. Occasionally these signs can be severe and need veterinary treatment to resolve. Spaying will prevent your pet from developing pseudo-pregnancy.🐶

If you would like to know more, or to arrange for your female dog/cat to be spayed, please get in touch with us :)💓
