One of the jobs we want to get done is the maintenance of the animal environments. It is always important to inspect our pets’ homes to ensure their safety. So we want to treat wood and reinforce mesh, just as an example. 🛠️

Bo and Peep did find a home but unfortunately Bo and Peep’s relationship did not continue to be friendly in the new environment and we were not able to take Peep back into foster. Thankfully Leybourne RSPCA had space for Peep and are now looking to find him a new loving home. 🐈⬛

Now who remembers Oojamaflip and Wotsit?
These girls met Ronnie back in early September.
Bonding was not straightforward introducing Ronnie to Oojamaflip and Wotsit. Ronnie and Wotsit hit it off but Oojamaflip was not so sure.
Then in November we received this message!

Look who like each other…they’ve been living together for a week. Yay!
It was September I started with the bonding and I have been swapping accommodation every other day to get them used to each other smell. Then I introduced small meetings with each of the girls at a time… starting with minutes of positive interaction and then stopping and building very slowly over the weeks.
Ronnie is a much happier bunny now!

This week’s SATURDAY SPECIAL we wanted to explain why there is a lack of cute animal stories. 🐇
So, we have some amazing trees around the Branch that provide shade and shelter for the animals in their runs. 🌲
But, these trees can also cause a few issues if not looked after. Every year we get the trees trimmed back so they are not dangerous, this year it is essential that we go for more of a trim! 🌳
So, after lots of discussions we took the hard decision to pause Rehoming and relocate the small animals to other RSPCA Branches so work can be carried out without risk to the animals. 🐇
But, it isn’t all heart breaking we are thinking about our future! We are taking this opportunity to upgrade our animal accommodation. There will be a lot of behind the scenes preparations so this is just the beginning of a long road ahead of an exciting future. 🛠️
We are still open with clinic running as usual, we are still accepting donations and fundraising, so don’t be strangers stay with us for updates and events! 💜💙♥️

This week’s SATURDAY SPECIAL comes at the end of a very cold week. 🥶
Rabbits can cope with cold temperatures rather well. It is important that your rabbits’ home should be waterproof, draught-proof, damp- proof, dry and well-ventilated. This helps with that cosy feeling that we all want over the winter. 🧤
Some tips for you to create this cosy home
• Check home for leaks or needed repairs.
• Try covers for hutches during the night
• Raise bed areas off the ground so they are not damp.
• Relocate into shed, garage or home.
• If moving indoors allow a rabbit to adjust to change in temperature slowly.
• Increase the amount of hay or straw for bedding
• Check water isn’t frozen twice a day.
• Dry off any rabbit that has exercised outside and got wet.

This week’s SATURDAY SPECIAL is a plea from Pashmina. 💖
Pashmina and Thumper came to the Branch to find a new home when their devoted owner could not give them enough attention as she needed to look after her poorly family member.
We knew we needed to help and do what we do best, find Pashmina and Thumper another loving home. 💖💚
This pair has been overlooked so far; Pashmina is looking fabulous at 7 years of age. She even has a toy-boy! Thumper is a younger boy at 4 years of age.
We understand the tricky situations you can find yourself in when you have a pair with an age gap and the worry of something happening to one of them, leaving you with a grieving bunny. 💔
But we also have met some incredible supporters out there recently that take on our special ones and love them no matter what! 💖💚
