One of Mocha and Winstones pups from 2022. Isn’t she gorgeous ? Beautiful shape face and body. I’m so fortunate to have photos and videos shared back.

Having said that, Winston covered Mocha so she might be pregnant again. We’ll find out soon enough.

Warning: small rant in defense of small birds that need big help from humans 💚🫵🏼
Most of you know me as a wellness veterinarian 👩‍⚕️, but I am also a wildlife biologist 👩🏻‍🌾 and licensed wildlife rehabilitator 🦅. This is one of my patients, who is sick because humans fed him cloudy, polluted nectar teeming with bacteria that eventually killed him 🧫😰.

I feel the same way about wildlife as I do domestic pets: it’s our responsibility to know enough to do no harm. When it comes to feeding wildlife, either do it right, or don’t do it at all. If you decide to feed hummingbirds, please do it correctly and responsibly, or you will kill them (and life is hard enough for our wild friends).

1. Do NOT use artificially colored store- bought hummingbird food 🛑❌. Commercial nectars have way too many preservatives, additives, chemical stabilizers and Red Dye #5 that’s harmful to their bodies 👎🏼.

Make your own nectar instead:

1 cup plain sugar + 4 cups boiling water (filter out the impurities)

(1:4 ratio means you can make smaller batches, like 1/4 cup sugar + 1 cup boiling water, if desired). Stir until sugar dissolves and let cool. Store in refrigerator and use up within a week.

❌ I love raw honey, but DON’T USE HONEY with hummingbirds 🍯👎🏼 (sugar is 50% fructose/50% glucose, honey is 40% fructose/30% glucose + other constituents, so it’s the wrong food matrix for them)

❌ I eat organic cane sugar, but DON’T USE ORGANIC SUGAR with hummingbirds👎🏼, it contains more minerals (like iron) that can bioaccumulate over time

2. Warm sugar water can quickly incubate incredible levels of pathogenic bacteria 🦠 and fungi that can infect and kill birds quickly 📈⚰️.The warmer the weather, the faster pathogenic microbes accumulate in nectar ☠️

Thoroughly disinfect and refill your hummingbird feeder twice a week in the spring. Above 85 degrees, clean and refill daily. (Yes, I said daily 😅) 🫗🧴🚰🧽🪣

Is this a complete pain? Yes. It’s also lifesaving and crucial, if you choose to feed hummingbirds. I spend 15 minutes a day taking care of my hummingbird feeders because I want the birds in my yard to not leave diseased and ill 🕊️.

I want to be a responsible steward of the wildlife in my yard. Please do the same, or simply enjoy them without feeding them. Plant hummingbird-friendly flowers 🌸. Better to keep them safe than inadvertently give them fatal food poisoning 💔.

And just like that I’m empty nest. All puppies are now in their forever homes. I am delighted with the results. Photographed here we have the last female pup just crated up for her journey home. I am always on standby for my new pet owners. May you have many enjoyable years with your new family member. Now to find out if Mocha managed to get pregnant again 🤔🤦🏼‍♀️✌🏻

This little guy has found his forever home and I couldn’t be more delighted. Reports are his has settled really well and his confidence is growing daily. He is good in his crate, toilet and a cat 🐈. Happy Days little man 💜

Raw-Fed Moms and Pups Means Fewer Skin Issues Later in Life 🐕✨

A study found that feeding pregnant dogs a raw, meat-based diet and weaning the puppies onto raw food had a significant protective effect against atopic dermatitis (allergies) in adulthood. 👍

Puppy homed - Family Feedback on settling in...

They have named their pup - Nico.

Nico has been brilliant, so calm and cuddly! The kids have loved all the cuddles and love he has given and us back to him! He has been doing great at night in his crate even tho get gets up a couple of times for wees he settles quickly and didn’t wake up till 9.30 this morning even tho we was up he was still sleeping away in his crate chilling out! All the grandparents have now met him and think he is so adorable and my brother and his kids r coming next weekend to meet our new member of the family, they saw him on a video call and my new nephews can’t wait for some cuddles!

Going in for a C-Section after contractions stopped. Mocha in good hands on. Saturday night going into Sunday morning to give birth to the rest of her litter. All born healthy and sent home with no defects or cleft concerns. Thank you

Always check the ingredients before making a purchase. Try looking for the most natural ingredients possible. Say no to parabens and sulphates and E numbers. Those types of ingredients can’t be any good for your pets coat, skin or bloodstream my groomer uses the same products

Say hello to Sable who has settled in with her new companion, Larry ! Her journey home was touching on 3 hours. Upon arrival home she walked into her new home and straight into Larrys bed with complete confidence. Apparently a new bed had to be purchased because poor ol’ Larry was a little confused but as you can see very accommodating. They have been getting along very well and been tolerated even when she gets a little annoying.... she’s a teething puppy!! Sable has even been asking to go toilet and she has only just been in her new home for touching on 72 hours. Amazing update that has warmed our hearts and bellies. Have an amazing life, Sable. We will love you forever but we know your new family loves you even more so ! Love is the most important thing alongside obedience. Ain’t she pretty !!! Larrys a right cutie too 🐕 💓 🐕

Another puppy went to her forever home today. Yellow collar / Golden girl is settling down for a farm girls life. Her companion a male golden retriever. Her new family are so prepared and delighted to have found her. We are sure they are all going to be very happy together. Oh and look another amazing update to the left, little Koda has settled in so well with his mum and his two matured and chilled brothers. Koda has been training with, Essex Dog Trainer, Alex. Seeking to bring out the best in Koda and also offering the mental stimulation he needs !

Dabber and Cola (mum and dad) will arrange to meet up days with their son, Koda in the near future. It will be super to see what progress Koda has made when we next see him. How cool is this !!!? 😍

Dabber also went training this afternoon where we did a bit of socialising, on and off commands and focused work.

Cola had a good long walk upon return from training her Mister. (She will start to join training sessions from next week).

We found a cute new path with a running stream and ducks on her walkies. She was intrigued by the ducks. No barking, good girl ! 🌟

Needless to say both adult dogs are exhausted and fast asleep at home.

Puppies needed some cuddles before it was time to clock off and lights out.

House is silent.

It begins all over again, tomorrow 😊

Weather forecast says it’s still going to be chilly tomorrow and then warmer (England warmer is 10-12 Degrees Celsius 😂) Monday through Wednesday. Come on sun ?
