I try not to post unpleasant injuries, but this poor hedgehog's story needed to be told. He was found by a lovely lady in Peterborough who has brought me several hedgehogs before, and he was completely curled, but showing injuries on his back with fly strike. We started removing the strike and only at that point did he poke his head out.
Unfortunately, one look at his nose, and it was an All Stop situation, Although his other injuries could be treated, his nose could never be repaired, and he needs his nose for everything he does in life, sniffing, finding food, digging, etc. This became an instant PTS situation.
There was NO WAY that whoever was walking their dog, was unaware that it had picked up this hedgehog and caused these injuries, and they chose to leave it to suffer for at least a day like this. FOR SHAME! I do not care if your dog picks up and throws and elephant around - I care if YOU walk off and leave it!! You take responsibility, not the dog!! I am not going to berate you or your dog for doing the right thing and bringing a hedgehog in for treatment after an accident.
Ollie was the bossy one,, don't think it's a match & Anna won't leave her breakfast. Come on love I've got cages to clean!!!

Another lucky hedgehog with a haircut, courtesy of a strimmer. Unfortunately it also nipped off the end of her nose. She has almost recovered now, but her spines won't grow back until they fall out and regrow completely. Please, please, check your grass before mowing and strimming.
Last thing on a Sunday night.. and this poor hog has suffered for days. Watch your dog when you take it for a walk and if it injures something, don't just leave it to suffer and for someone else to find!

Now that's a frisky lungworm!! Fortunately we can treat these hedghogs who 'look perfectly fine', but have a terribly worm burden. #saveourhogs #cambridgeshirehogs
This is Margaret. She has just arrived and is having her initial check. You can hear her breathing is laboured and raspy, she has ticks in and round the ears and the typical dip in the back of the neck Any guesses from followers as to what may be wrong? No hints from rehabbers or foster carers! #cambrigeshirehogs #hedgehoghostel
This lid was clipped down, but it gives you an idea of how strong they are.... and noisy!! #cambrigeshirehogs #hedgehoghostel
Help!! With the recent heavy rain, it's now raining indoors! Please help in whatever way you can. Anything over the funding target will go towards the other day-to-day costs of the hostel https://www.gofundme.com/f/rain-damage-relief-for-hedgehog-home?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_lico+share-sheet-first-launch
2nd release of the day, and 2nd in St Ives! This was Tiggy going back to the garden he had lived in for the past 3 years. He remembers the way!!
Princess needs a few decent meals and some TLC. She has been picked up and thrown about by something much bigger than her, if you look closely you can see the sets of broken spines along her back and sides where she was held in a mouth. #cambridgeshirehedgehogs #roadtorecovery
Pico sharing his dinner with a dinosaur...and no, I didn't place it! He was playing with it, and that's where it fell!! #saveourhogs #dinnerwithfriends
