As part of Dental Awareness Month, the wonderful Fin volunteered to be our handsome cat clinic model. At Fin's annual vaccination appointment, it was noticed that he had fractured one of his canines. This is something we see very commonly in cats, often as a result of trauma from falling or collision.

Fin was admitted to the surgery for extraction of his tooth, as well as a geriatric blood tests to screen his organ function, and a scale and polish to make the rest of his teeth nice and shiny✨. The extraction of this tooth was essential as we remove the risk of infection and pain associated with this. After extraction, the socket where the tooth was removed was sutured up to help the healing process. We look forward to seeing Fin back for his routine post operative checks to make sure there are no problems associated with the dental over the upcoming weeks!💚

🩷Jenny🩷

The very majestic Jenny came to our clinic recently for one of our 'Magnificent Moggies' Clinics! These clinics are aimed at our older feline friends above the ages of 7 to help screen cats for any potential underlying diseases such as kidney disease, overactive thyroid, heart disease, diabetes and hypertension. Within these consultations you see both a vet and nurse to discuss your cat as well as a blood, urine and blood pressure screening.

In Jenny's 'Magnificent Moggies' Clinic it was diagnosed that she had underlying kidney disease. Although this is not able to be treated, this condition can now be managed with medication and slowed down in terms of progression. Whilst Jenny was also here it was discovered she looks just like the cat on the front of her booklet!! Jenny is a very sweet little cat!💚📸

If you would like to speak to a member of our team regarding these clinics please call 01538 752117 to speak to a member of our team. Everything within these clinics would normally cost close to £700 pounds. However the 'Magnificent Moggies' is being offered at £125!!😱

😱Exciting news!😱

We now have a brand new video bronchoscope here at the Cat Clinic! Our new bronchoscope provides higher resolution images, aiding in diagnostics and detection in any abnormalities in the airways.

In the images shown the new bronchoscope is being used to preform a nasal flush on a very handsome chap called Jezza. A 11 year old Domestic short hair who has been suffering from excessive sneezing and mucus coming from the nose. Our vet Jodie flushed the nose to allow for the detection of any potential foreign bodies and clear away the mucus.

The even more good news is, no foreign bodies were detected and since having the procedure Jezza has been much better! 💚

Meet the very wonderful Ollie who has been to visit both clinics recently! He came to us for a General Anaesthetic and Dental which was carried out at our Lime Trees Cat Clinic.
During his procedure he had a total of 7 teeth removed! 🦷
During one of his post operative checks it was discovered Ollie had some inflammation around one of the areas of surgical removal. After some help from medication here is a picture of him at his final post of check and he has now been all signed off! We are very glad he has now made a full recovery!💚

One of the most common things we as clinicians see at our beloved pets health check is their increase in weight. Like humans, obesity is becoming a huge problem, and often it can be such an easy thing to avoid and improve in our furry friends! Just some small changes to your pets lifestyle and food choices can make a world of difference.

We understand that weight management can be a challenging topic for a lot of people, and sometimes noticing that your pet is becoming a little overweight can be the hardest step. At Lime Trees Vets, our amazing nurses offer a 30-45 minute weight clinic, to discuss in more depth tips and tricks to help improve your pets life and longevity.

What does our 'weight clinic' entail? ⚖️🩺💚

- A nurse will weigh, measure and body condition score your furry friend at the initial appointment. A body condition score (BCS) is a method used to evaluate the body mass in animals. This is used to make sure animals are the correct size and weight. ⚖️
- One of nurses generate a feeding plan going forward that is well suited for your pet. 🍏
- Follow up appointments will be 15 minutes. These consults will again be weighing and measuring to track the progress that has been made. Any concerns can be communicated and alterations to any plans made can be changed. 🥰
- You will be given a personalised booklet to log each consultation and track any progress that has been made. 📗

💚🐱PATIENT APPRECIATION POST🐱💚

Meet Hallie - a recent Cheadle Animal Welfare patient who needed a tooth removed after one of our vets noticed it was fractured at a health check! Hallie visited the Cat Clinic to undergo the procedure and make her mouth significantly more comfortable.

- Hallie was pre-medicated with an injection to make her feel more sleepy and relaxed. An intravenous catheter was then placed to make sure we had access to a blood supply for any additional medications she needed. 💉
- Hallie was then converted to a general anaesthetic with a tube in her throat to protect her airways and to give her inhalational anaesthetic gas to keep her asleep and comfortable for the whole procedure. A skilled RVN monitored Hallie through the whole procedure to ensure she was safe. 💤
- All of Hallie's teeth were then checked and charted, x-rayed and scaled to clean any plaque build up in her mouth which could be contributing to her dental disease. The x-rays revealed that only the fractured canine was likely to cause Hallie any problems, so extractions could begin. 🩻
- Hallie's tooth was removed via a surgical extraction - a process whereby the bone in the mouth anchoring the tooth is gently removed and the tooth luxated out. The extraction site is then closed with stitches to prevent any food getting stuck in there. 🪡
- Hallie was given additional pain relief prior to her recovery, and woke up beautifully in her kennel. She will go home with some oral pain medication and will be seen back for post operative checks to ensure her recovery is as smooth as possible! 🦷💚

EAR INFECTIONS! 🐱🐶🩺

Ear infections are one of the most common cases we deal with here at Lime Trees Vets! They can affect any breed of dog or cat, but can be more commonly seen if your pet enjoy swimming, or has other skin allergies. The most common clinical signs we see associated with infections are head shaking, scratching, redness of the ear canal, and discharge/increased waxiness down the ear.

At the vets, if we suspect an ear infection is affecting your pet, we may opt to take a swab to look at under the microscope which will allow us to choose the most suitable treatment. Infections can come in many different shapes and forms:

- Bacterial = little clusters of round purple bacteria, or long thin rods.
- Fungal (yeast) = little purple 'snowmen' or 'peanut' shaped debris.
- Parasitic = mites!

The lovely Simba came to see us at the back end of last year for his annual vaccinations and health check! He is a 3 year old Ragdoll and is a very handsome boy! When he was with us he very much enjoyed having an explore around the consult room.

Our vet Jess checked over his teeth as his owners were concerned if any dental procedures were needed in the near future but Simba is all ok! We look forward to seeing Simba back in the future!💚

🐾🐱STAFF PET STORY TIME!🐱🐾

Trixie was brought into our Meir Park Hospital by the police as a stray after being involved in a road traffic collision! After initial examination, it appeared Trixie's vision was altered, as well as having facial wounds, and some spinal discomfort. Therefore, the decision was made to hospitalise Trixie with some strong pain relief medications with the hopes of rehabilitating and rehoming her.

Trixie spent the Christmas period in the warmth and quiet of our hospital cattery, and after 3 weeks of medication and TLC, she was suitable for rehoming - and her vision appeared to have improved! During her stay, one of our vets really bonded with little Trixie, and the decision was made that they would foster her until a suitable adopter was found...

Our vet found even more love for Trixie after fostering and made the decision that Trixie would not be leaving their home, and opted to adopt her from the charity! Trixie now lives a very happy and normal life (despite her odd neurological quirks!) in a new and happy home for many years to come!💚
