Thank you very much to Siobhan and Laura from Unified Equine Physiotherapy for coming to our first local farriers CPD evening of 2023 this week.
Was really informative and well done for getting all the farriers to get involved 🤣

Earlier this week, we presented some of our knowledge, tips and tricks to the local farriers in our area about keeping themselves fit, healthy and treating any pain or injuries they incur.
We both really enjoyed it and hope to have got people thinking more about looking after their body in this demanding industry.

Thank you to D. N. Farriery for hosting 😊

Here’s some pictures of the feet of a 6 year old gelding that’s come out of racing for a career in eventing. This is Aldy (Aldrich Bay) and you can follow his journey by liking and subscribing to youtube.com/

He is on a 4-5 week shoeing cycle and I’ve shod him a couple of times prior to this. We aren’t quite getting the heels to be where we want them to be and at the moment the foot is 5 1/4” wide and 5” toe to point of heel. The heels are currently strong, but they do run forwards and we would like to improve the H.P.A. (hoof phalangeal angle or the slope of the pastern) so we have put on some 3D pads with some dental impression material under the shoe.

Over time I’m wanting to get more support from the shoe by shoeing him longer, but with the current wet ground I don’t want to risk him pulling a shoe.

Hopefully the extra frog support will help the back half (caudal) of the foot to function better by loading the frog and in turn the digital cushion (an internal structure directly above the frog). This will encourage the heels to grow down more as the horse moves, and over time they will get stronger.

‼ Do clean your horse’s feet and legs prior to your farrier appointment – you wouldn’t go to the dentist after eating a Mars bar having not cleaned your teeth!
Beyond your farrier getting dirty and increasing the risk of accidents through slippy/muddy chaps, farriers use rasps to level, balance and finish the foot – rasps clog particularly easily preventing your farrier from doing the best job they can.

Really pleased with how these feet looked and I put on some ProFeet Farriers Solution. I’m now stocking it in the van and I’m recommending people use throughout the year to help regulate the moisture levels in the feet…… atleast it looked good for two minutes!
Will be a good test of the hoof dressing anyway 😂🤣

🌧 We are sooooo greatful for this rain 😍

Unfortunately we are only able to stay open until 8pm Saturday this weekend, but we do have several spaces left before then.

If you’d like to have a walk around first and see if the going has improved enough to book, then please send us a message and we can let you know when there’s no one there and you can have a look before booking.

We have got lots of ideas to try to improve and work around the weather better if we have the same next year, so if we don’t see you this year then we hope to see you next year.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in what’s been an exceptionally hot and dry year so far.
