A first for vet Ellie today. This nanny goat wasn’t eating properly and was found to be missing a molar. This had caused overgrowth of the surrounding teeth, which had been cutting into her tongue! She underwent sedation (under the watchful eye of inquisitive kids!) to have a dental and will hopefully be feeling better soon!

This International Women’s Day saw the British Veterinary Association celebrate Mary Brancker, the first female president of the BVA. In their dedication they recount Mary’s first solo farm visit, which saw the farmer invite a crowd of sceptical onlookers to watch her treat a cow.
Thankfully, times have changed. But vets like Mary paved the way for vets like us, to thrive as an all female team of farm vets

Worried about Bluetongue? Wondering what’s the current situation? Should you be vaccinating?
Join vets Becky and Ellie on Wednesday 19th March at 7.30pm, who will be helping to answer these questions and more.
This is primarily relevant for sheep and cattle owners, but goats and camelids can be infected too.
Please RSVP by calling or emailing the practice so we have an idea on numbers 🐄🐑🐐🦙

Spreading of Bestico Biowasps, or Friendly Flies as they’re better known, will start up again soon!
Friendly flies are parasitic wasps that interrupt the fly lifecycle, in turn preventing problems like New Forest Eye and reducing the need for chemicals.
They’re suitable for the fight against biting and nuisance flies that bother cattle and horses, unfortunately they don’t prevent blowfly strike.
If you’d like some more information please get in touch 🪰🐮🐎

Thanks to everyone who came along to our Lungworm meeting last night. A massive thanks to Paul and Ceri from MSD for delivering an informative talk!
If you’d like to know more about lungworm or the logistics of vaccination do please get in touch. If you’re interested in vaccination but worried about practical help this is something our Vet Tech could assist with 🪱 🐮

Don’t forget this is tomorrow night!

Don’t forget this is tomorrow night!

You're invited to our next in-house meeting!
MSD are joining us to discuss all things lungworm 🐮
🪱 The economic losses from lungworm for a dairy herd is conservatively estimated at £140 per adult cow, with a lost milk production averaging 4kg/cow/day
🪱 In beef cattle conception rates can be lowered and barren rates increased if breeding corresponds with an outbreak. Loss of condition and milk production will lead to reduced DLWG in growing calves - losses can average £50-100 per head
Now is the time to get ahead!
Join us on Tuesday 18th February at 7pm, at the practice. Lots of yummy food and drink will be provided, as always!
