📣 A Message for All Blasford Hill Dog Park Users: Let’s Talk Responsibility - ‼️Long Post Alert ‼️
We pride ourselves on being a welcoming community here at Blasford Hill Dog Park. It’s a beautiful space for our dogs to enjoy, and we’re incredibly fortunate to have so many responsible users who take pride in keeping the park clean. However, it’s time for a serious reminder about something that’s recently become an issue: dog fouling.
Let’s be clear: ALL dogs poo. That’s perfectly fine. What’s not fine is leaving it behind for others to deal with.
Earlier today, a member of our community pointed out to someone that their dog had fouled the park. Rather than taking responsibility, they chose to respond with attitude, not action. Let us be very clear: this behaviour is NOT acceptable. If someone does you the courtesy of alerting you to something you’ve missed, just say “thank you” and deal with it. There is no place for defensiveness or rudeness when it comes to keeping our park clean and enjoyable for everyone.
Why this matters:
1. It’s unhygienic – Leftover poo isn’t just unpleasant; it’s a health hazard. Dogs can eat it (yes, it happens, and it’s gross), children can step in it, and no one wants to take that home on their shoes.
2. It’s disrespectful – Leaving it behind for someone else to deal with isn’t fair to other park users or the person we pay to help keep the park clean.
3. It’s your responsibility – If you bring your dog to the park, part of enjoying this space is taking responsibility for them.
A few facts to consider:
• Every weekday, we have someone patrolling the park for an hour, picking up waste and rubbish. Lately, the amount of dog poo they’re finding is getting out of hand.
• Yes, we understand the odd poo gets missed – it happens. But the volume we’re now seeing suggests that too many people are not bothering.
So, here’s what we’re asking:
• If your dog poos, pick it up.
• If you miss it and someone points it out, thank them and deal with it.
• If you can’t or won’t clean up after your dog, don’t use the park.
The vast majority of our members do their bit, and we thank you for that. This post isn’t aimed at you. This is aimed at the small minority who think it’s someone else’s job to clean up after their dog. Enough is enough.
We are a community, and we all need to do our part to keep this park a clean and safe space for everyone to enjoy. Let’s not let the actions of a few spoil it for the rest.
Thank you for reading and for helping to keep Blasford Hill Dog Park beautiful.
Let’s clean up our act – together.
