Yet another goodbye 😢
This time to Scruffy the sh*tzu.
Scruffy has been with me from nearly the beginning of my business. He joined us in early 2013 and was a big hit with me and the other dogs.
He was such a cheeky, stubborn and funny little man and his antics brought so many happy and memorable moments to our walks.
As the years progressed, we cut down his walks and eventually he was just having one walk a week, but soon that became too much for him and we decided that he should retire.
I kept in touch with his family to see how he (and they) were getting on and they contacted me at the end of July to give me an update on Scruff, he was doing ok despite being deaf, blind and having dementia, the main thing was the good days were outnumbering the bad at that point.
Unfortunately that changed and on Monday I was contacted by Tracey to say that they would be saying goodbye later that day and asked if I’d like to come and see Scruff before then.
I know my clients know how much their pets mean to me, but I do sometimes wonder if sometimes other people think it’s ’just a job’. I love each and every pet I look after as if they were my own and my heart breaks each time we have to say goodbye.
This goodbye was particularly hard as Scruff has been my companion on thousands of walks over the years, but he has been so loved during his life that it gives some comfort to me and his family that he made it to 15 years of age.
My love goes to his family, Tracey, Chris and Al.
Rest well Scruffy ♥️
