Young Teddy marching home on a loose rein.

Teddy is working on his fitness this week and really learning to gain confidence hacking alone.

Being young it’s really important we allow them to take in the surroundings and work through any questionable situations with positive reinforcement.

We came across motorcycles, cars and a dustbin lorry today. None of which bothered Teddy.

He did however take a disliking to a tonne bag left on the road. This is ok.. it’s important that we allow the horse to have a look, a sniff and know the bag is not going to kill them 😂

With a little encouragement he walked on and we was well on our way again!

What a good boy Teddy! 💫

This is really important when training horses. Rome wasn’t built in a day!

It can be very tempting for some to use training aids to force and manipulate the horse into these ‘desired’ frames.

The importance is that the horse can hold the frame itself and work from behind pushing itself forwards. This takes time and doesn’t look very ‘pretty’ for a while but it allows them to really work their core and lift up through their backs which is what we want.

We want the horse to work from behind and engage key muscles allowing them to build up their topline and learn to move forwards in this new way.

Progress is key! It could take a while , a lot of communication and questions from the horse but when the desired outcome appears it is so rewarding 💫
