Firework season is upon us and we are here to help pets in need!
We have a variety of prescription only medication to help your pets! There are also different things you can try.
Plug in diffusers work well and help ease anxiety in cats, it needs to be started 7-10 days before fireworks start and needs to be plugged into an electrical socket, it is safe and easy to use.
Impregnated collars can be very helpful for dogs, they are to be worn all the time and contain synthetic dog pheromones to help keep your dog calm and less aware of external bangs.
We also have 10 top tips to help get your furry friend through the firework season
1. Keep to a routine and keep calm, your pet will pick up on your emotions!
2. Close all windows and curtains, play music or tv for some background noise
3. Ensure your pet has somewhere safe to hide, behind the sofa or in the corner of the room is usually sufficient
4. Ensure cats are back home well before dark and keep them inside
5. Excerise your dog during daylight hours before fireworks start
6. Try not to punish your pet if they get upset, equally donā€™t fuss them too much. Some pets donā€™t understand the difference between positive and negative reinforcement and will want fuss all the time.
7. Avoid feeding your pets large meals before dark as when scared it can cause vomiting. Try to limit your pets water when possible to prevent them needing to go for toilet breaks frequently when fireworks may be going off.
8. Small furry friends such as rabbits and Guinea pigs must not be forgotten, if possible move them inside or into a shed or garage to prevent exposure to noises and light. Try to put as much bedding as possible in with them and somewhere to hide.
9. Bonfires can be fatal to wildlife due to their appealing nature, please try to build your bonfire as late as possible to prevent animals such as hedgehogs using the bonfire as somewhere to snooze. Please poke your bonfire before lighting to allow animals to escape.
10. Please be careful and considerate to animals if lighting a bonfire or using fireworks. Embers can be hot and burn animals feet as they do not wear shoes like we do. Please ensure all fires and fireworks are extinguished to prevent harming animals.
Some above hints and tips will hopefully make firework season more calm for you and your furry friends. Please have fun and stay safe.
