Looks like summer has finally got the memo and showed up☀️ We hope you and your pooches are all finding a way to keep cool in this heat 🥵

⚠️ Your dog’s welfare is our priority, please keep your dogs safe and cool in this weather and where possible walk at times of the day when the temperature is cooler. If you’ve booked the field and you feel it’s too warm to walk your dog, please contact us to reschedule your booking.

💧 If you are planning to walk your dog at the field today, the pond has been emptied and refilled to keep your dogs cool but please take fresh cold drinking water and a bowl with you for your dog.

I’m sure it’ll be raining again next week and we’ll all be worrying about the mud 🤣 so let’s all make the most of the nice weather whilst it’s here ☀️

Pond emptied and fresh water top up this evening!

Some may have noticed a new feature in the works, hopefully that should be completed by the end of the week. Your dogs seem to love the tunnel through the mound, so we are adding more tunnels to chase and climb through!

What a difference a bit of ☀️ and 💨 makes!
Field has turned from being wet clogging mud in a large portion to almost completely dry in the space of a week. Still mud but dry mud we can deal with 😂
That being said touch 🪵 we can open more slots to welcome as many people who require us as possible. 40 minute early morning slots and 1 hour evening slots will be available from this week.
Big thank you to everyone for bearing with us and especially to those who still braved this winter!
Hopefully we should be able to get into the field and mow the grass early May time. Straw bale will be replaced asap again ground permitting. We have some new obstacles lined up to make an appearance this year but any suggestions more than welcome!

It is plain to see that two-year-old lurcher, Ozzy, had a fantastic time recently at Paw Park - Secure Dog Walking Field who kindly donate slots for our rescue dogs to enjoy some much-needed respite from their daily routines in their off-lead paddock.

Since Ozzy came to the Shelter in June, he has been busy learning lots of new ticks with the help of his carers and has mastered the art of loose lead walking! He is a very intelligent boy who enjoys using his brain to sniff out tasty treats and loves to play with a soft ball.

Ozzy can be a little overwhelmed by new situations so would benefit from a confident owner who can help ease his anxieties. He would like to live in an adult-only family where he is the only pet where he can receive the ongoing training he needs.

Despite previous appeals, this lovely lad has received little interest in the six-months he has been with us so we are hoping that the right person will see how much he loves the great outdoors and come forward to offer him the active lifestyle that he will thrive in.

If you could offer Ozzy his forever home, please email 👉 [email protected] 👈 or to see all our pets waiting to be adopted, please visit 👉 www.gawa.org.uk 👈

Happy new year everyone 🥳
Here’s to hoping for a drier year ☀️

Just a heads up regarding the new rules on Banned breeds that came in this year.
Have received some positivity from our insurers shown in the photos and the new rules for paw park.

Feel free to share this post to spread the word

Many thanks

Due to the conditions at the field we are significantly reducing availability for the foreseeable. We know a lot of dogs don’t mind the mud and wet so if you’re looking for a slot and can’t see any availability, contact us as we will be monitoring daily and will do our best to provide a space for as many as we can whilst also not completely destroying the field for the spring

Many thanks

Can you help? Do you know someone with Frenchie experience?

Please remember a dog is for life - not just for Christmas. This would be a long-term commitment.

3yr old male blue Frenchie.

He has sadly become a victim of circumstances, and through no fault of his own is looking for long term Foster, with a view to adoption, or a Furever home.

We feel this dog would benefit from the following home:

🐾 An experienced Frenchie owner. One who is au fait with their traits and needs.

🐾 No small children living in the home under 10yrs. He is a stocky boy and quite boisterous, so could easily knock someone small over - admittedly, he would likely lick you to pieces but this can be quite traumatic for a small child. Mindfulness around visiting children.

🐾 No Cats

🐾 Possible submissive Companion (see below for more details)

🐾 Working from home, part time working or retired would suit. FT working would be considered if there was definately an alternative to his crate; dog walker or popins. Though he would need solo walks, not pack play sessions as this is far too overwhelming for him.

Things to know about this little fun nugget:

🐾 A real snuggle bunny, who loves belly rubs and fuss - if you have a lap, he would love it.

🐾 Currently entire until 12/12/23 ✂️

🐾 He can live with another male or female submissive dog, but would benefit from a sole home to start and slow introductions as he has been subject to living with a bitch who has ruled the roost and been aggressive towards him multiple times. Once he knows and trusts a dog he would like nothing more than a buddy to cozy up to.

🐾 He is toy possessive when it comes to other dogs, but is happy to play with his hoomans. Though you should always consider having two toys to throw/play with so that he doesn't jump and catch your fingers. He does not understand the concept of "leave" or "drop" and will need help in this area.

🐾 This being said *toy possessive*, this has been partly down to the bitch he was living with. Therefore this could change with a trusted friend.

🐾 He has bursts of energy as a young kid, and does enjoy walks, though would happily chase a ball round the garden or play tuggy so a walk a day is not imperative. General mental and physical stimulation is a must.

🐾 He does have some reactivity on the lead, but positive reinforcement and training would benefit this boy.

🐾 He is super excited when it comes to walks, so getting his harness on can sometimes be tricky, and his initial want to leave the house is frantic in excitement. This is due to the fact he spends most of the time in his crate. Being free-range most of the day with a hooman than can stimulate him, will help him be more relaxed about going out and doing things because they won't be so infrequent and overstimulating.

🐾 His current exercise routine is very limited so he is a little overweight. Diet management and less treats would help this kid. Vets have suggested he "may" be a candidate for BOAS surgery, however we feel that with maintained weight loss he would be fine.

🐾 He is crate trained and will sleep in it downstairs happily - as long as he is warm and snug he's happy.

🐾 Food wise, he is happy for you to stroke him and take the bowl away whist he is eating, but cannot eat near another dog due to the previous bitch causing issues.

🐾 He will, once he knows you, allow you to clean his face folds and ears.

🐾 He does not like delivery drivers or postmen.

💩 POLITE NOTICE 💩

We and our regular dog walkers have yet again noticed an increase in unpicked dog poo, this problem always seems to be particularly worse during bouts of wet weather (and we’ve had more than enough of that recently!). However, the weather shouldn’t be an excuse for individuals not to pick up after their dog.

We fully accept that some poos will occasionally get missed, especially if walking multiple dogs but this does not account for the amount of poo’s we’re having to pick up at the moment.

We have cameras in place at the moment and have just purchased some more to cover the entire field so repeat offenders and anyone caught blatantly not picking up after their dog will be banned from using Paw Park due to the safety of other users and their dogs.

On the note of safety- please could we also request that you don’t allow your dog(s) to dig holes whilst in the field as this also poses a risk to other users and dogs whilst using the field. If you have a dog that has dug a hole or indeed you see holes in the field whilst walking around please do get in touch with us and we will ensure the holes are filled in as quick as possible.

We’re sorry to have had to write this post yet again but the message just doesn’t seem to be getting through to some individuals.

However, we would like to say a massive thank you to many of our regular customers and dog walkers who pick up extra poos as they walk around and help us greatly in keeping the field clean.

To end on a better note, the weather is finally set to improve this week and we may finally get some sun again ☀️ Whatever your plans, we hope you all have a fab week.

We thank you all for your cooperation regarding the above.

Many thanks,
Ryan & Jo

The pond fence is slowly taking shape so you will soon be able to keep your dogs out of the water if you choose to. There’s always a few last minute cannon ballers just as you are about to load into the car 😂 so this will stop them also!

We have a mystery on our hands today, unfortunately the bin by the car park has miraculously collapsed (I don’t think I purchased the foldable version but will check 😂)
On a serious note though, if anyone does have any accidents etc please do let me know. the bin isn’t really an issue we can sort a new one out pretty fast it’s just the dangers that can occur from the spilled rubbish and broken metal that’s the main concern.

P.S a big thank you to everyone who has visited us recently, the field is being left very clean
Many thanks

The field has been drying out nicely (until todays down pour anyway🙄), it has been rolled and the grass is being cut this week.

Thank you for bearing with us over the recent weeks whilst we have been running the field at less than half capacity to try and allow it time to dry out in between walkers.

Now all we need is the sun to make an appearance ☀️

💩 ❌ 💩 ❌

Sadly, despite our best efforts unpicked poo appears to still be a big issue in the field.

This ruins other people’s experiences whilst using our field, which is a massive shame.
One, nobody wants to accidentally tread in dog poo.
Secondly some dogs eat other dogs poo which makes the field unsafe for these dogs to be walked off lead - which defeats the object of our field.
Thirdly, some people walk around the field with toddlers/ young children (ourselves included) which again makes dog poo being left on the ground dangerous ⚠️

We have added signs on the fencing, supplied poo bags on the entrance and dog poo bins in the field. We check and clear the field as often as we can.

I’m not sure what else we can do?

We made the field large so that dogs had a good area to roam free but if people continue not picking up after their dogs we will have no option other than to halve the field and make the area smaller so people can see where their dogs are going to toilet in the hope that it helps the situation.

💡 If anyone has any other suggestions to help this, please do let us know. 💡

Further to the post on the weekend regarding the large amount of dog poo being left in the field, we are pleased to say that we have noticed a massive improvement this week. So thank you all for making an extra effort to pick up after your dog(s) and a massive thank you to those of you who pick up any extra as you go along.

It makes walking your dog a much more pleasant experience when you’re not having to watch where you walk. 🐶

Today we have added a poo bag dispenser by the gate, so if you have forgotten yours, please feel free to take a bag. We have also added several signs around the field as a gentle reminder.

Again, a massive thank you to you all for your cooperation!
