Another grooming adaptation story! 💕

Little Marley was not well cared for before he was found and adopted by his lovely Mum and Dad 🥺 He’s two years old and being a rescue, we simply don’t know a lot about his background and history with grooming 🤔

It’s my job to work with Marley, trial equipment and noises to investigate what he finds easy and what he struggles with!

Mum and Dad said loud noises are a struggle for him, so Marley had a trim and tidy up before the bath just in case he didn’t like the dryer! ✂️🌬️

He was an absolute star being bathed but the dryer was just a bit too loud for him! Instead, he had a real good towel dry and ran around playing games and chasing treats to help him dry off! 🐾

Adapting the groom to the dogs behaviour and needs is important to set them up for future success in the salon 💕

There is no ‘quick fix’ for fears and anxiety in dogs. It’ll take some time, but with understanding, positive reinforcement and a gentle approach, one day Marley may be able to combat his fears! And until then? Playtime towel-dry it is! 🥰

Me and salty did something a little bit different for his grooming session. Salty had his entire groom… in the bathtub! 😮

It may sound a bit bizarre, but hear me out with this one! Salty is a one year old spaniel and he came to me for his first ever professional groom 🥰

Not being familiar with the process meant he was a bit scared being up high on the table, so we thought we’d try something a bit different!

Having the walls of the bath around him made him feel a lot more secure and calmer than being in full view on the table. So we bathed, dried and did a trim and tidy all in the bath tub. And he did so so well! 🥹

I always say the grooming process is unique for each dog! Adapting the groom to the dog’s needs is important to ensure the groom goes well and causes the least amount of stress possible. And if Salty needs his groom to be completed in a bathtub to feel safe, then so be it! 🥰

🤔 How often is your dog groomed?

The weather is so up and down at the moment meaning all that rain and mud can easily turn tangles into matting (or worse, pelting!) 😱😱
